1950's Rhythm and Blues

I am a fan of this genre ( Johhny Otis, Chuck Willis, Ruth Brown, Laverne Baker, The Clovers, Smiley Lewis, ect). Can this music be found anywhere ( terrestrial or internet streming) ? I remember hearing some syndicated programs a few years back ( Little Walter's Time Machine and The Night Train) that I especially liked. Do they still exist?

I'm not sure what syndicated shows are still around, but I do know I'm prepping a
return to Live365 for my station and that all the artists you mentioned will be in regular rotation. There are several fine stations on Live365 that might fit the bill for you- give some of them a shot.

Our high school radio station, WRSG, has "Doo Wop Wednesday". I'm always looking for 'new' songs, so if anyone knows of a good source, please share.

Smiley Lewis

I have a pretty good library, so you should be able to find most of it. I used to get my obscure stuff from a place in Baltimore called Roadhouse Oldies. The guy had a Sunday night forgotten 45s show back in the day. Lasted for years and years and years, and he never ran out of forgotten 45s.

Sunday afternoons at 4 PM MST/PDT 5 MDT, 6 CDT, 7 EDT we - www.gulchradio.com broadcast all those artists and more for two hours on the Geezer Rock Show hosted by the Real Geezer - he's a good friend of mine - old and authentic.

Tune in - commercial free other than a few vintage spots and classic AM jingles. Free and fun.

I'll post a play list later, to see if it suits your taste.

"Matt The Cat" was on XM satellite radio before they merged with Sirius. He has a website and his "Friday Night Cat Fight" shows are available there for streaming or downloading. The site is at http://www.mattthecat.com/FNCF/

Good playlist, mostly 50s & 60s R&R and Top 40, not much R&B - however I'm not complaining. Why not add some Jimmy Reed, Howlin' Wolf, BB King, Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Little Milton, Lightin' Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, et al. Now we're talkin' rhythm and blues. 8)

We play all of the '50s R&B mentioned on our internet station "The Doo-Wop Express." WARNING: You will also hear pop music from the '50s and early '60s.

Doo-Wop might be old (in genre) but it will never grow too old for those whom love the sound. Mix a little 50s/60s pop - hey - not too bad at all. Keep on keeping on.

I think Don K Reed on WCBS-FM had the best Doo- Wop show ever and I never lived in NY. I liked his show so much I used to have someone send me tapes when it was on the air. CBS-FM did not stream in those days.
