1970s W-E-A promo man Jerry Barrett dies

Sad to pass this along, from Wayne Watkins on the Louisiana board...

Sorry to report that longtime record rep vet and awesome guy Jerry Barrett lost his battle with cancer last night...he had just found out a few months ago he had terminal liver cancer. Those of us ol' timers remember the great times with Jerry..he was larger than life. Condolences to friends and family in Texas. And thanks to Patty Martin for keeping me posted.

Jerry was a big jolly hoss of a guy, working Oklahoma out of the WEA Dallas office in the early and mid 70s, before transferring to New Orleans in 1975. Don't know what promo guys are like these days ... but Jerry could have been the model for the breed, back then.

I'm always sad to hear of the passing of one of our ilk. He belongs to eternity now. They don't lay off anybody over there.

I got to know Jerry during the 70's at KAKC then in Baton Rouge & Birmingham in the 80's. A real pro, no BS like many in his/our profession....and man, could the dude party! It's sad to hear he's passed.
Hey Scoot, what's Weird Wayne up to these days?

M Mouth, as I said in my post on Jerry's passing on the Louisiana board, re: his ability to party, "I imagine all the folks at Amaretto de Saronno are wearing black arm bands."

BTW, Tom Cheney of the Erv Woolsey tribe corrects me: Jerry was covering Tulsa from OkCty...then went to New Orleans...and finally worked his way back to his desired Dallas position.

Mike, catch up with Weerd Wayne on either the Louisiana or Mississippi boards. He's running a group in Gulfport, as well as his own kick-a** online rock 'n oldies flamethrower.

Happy holidaze, evva body.
