1978 Satellite TV

I ordered Bob Cooper's CATJ + CSD Archives on DVD, so now I have what is a veritable goldmine of historical satellite / cable TV information. Here is a list of the channels found in his "1978 CATJ Transponder Usage Chart":

PBS Video (East, Mountain, West feeds)
CBC English TV
CBC French TV
ASN/WOR
ASN/WGN
ASN/KTTV
ASN/Hollywood I
PTL
Vistar
WTCG
CBN
Madison Square Garden
KTBN
Showtime (East and West feeds)
Fanfare
HTN
HBO (East and West feeds)

When did KTVU go up on satellite?

I thought it was around this time as well. I remember it being on cable when I was at school in Clemson, SC.

Did you mean KTVT, Fort Worth? I don't think KTTV Los Angeles was ever on satellite.

I have the same DVDs at home and it took me days to get through them all.

Nope, KTVT didn't hit satellite until the early 80s. KTTV was one of four services that ASN uplinked. WGN and WOR would eventually be reuplinked within months of each other and revived. WGN remains to this day.

And there was a nice little attempt to put KTVU San Francisco up on the air.

I'm pretty sure CBC had its North (English) feed on satellite. As for their French service, was it CBFT in Montreal? I know some far-flung places such as Whitehorse got CBFT later on.

You're right, CBC North was on Satelite. I remember a friend had it in the states back in 1985, and since we were both Canadians, we'd watch it to keep in touch with home.
