1980's KZAP Sacto staffers

:D Any former KZAP staffers out there? Back in the days that KZAP ruled in Sacto we had so much fun! Tom Cale, Charlie Weiss, John Russell, Tom Mendoza, JT Austin, Vicki Laviakis, Captain Carrot. Anybody know where any of the alumni is now? Is everybody still alive? Just checking!

Well, the last I heard was that Tom Cale is in Trinity county, I believe. I think he's into something internet related. He couldn't make it to the reunion for some reason. John Russell, last I heard, was doing weekends in SF. But that was awhile ago. Charlie's still here in Sac, I think working with a theater company or something like that. Bob Galli's still in Buffalo, but not on the air. That may have changed. Brad Brenner (Brad Lee and Bob the Wonderdog) lives in Oregon and owns a PR company. Valerie was at the Wolf in sales, last I heard. And Rocky was working at CBS last time I talked to her about a year ago. Chris Davis has been working for the state forever. Kent Randles is still working as an engineer in either Oregon or Washington. Fuzzy Bill is still here in Sac doing something, not sure what. Last I heard Don Andrews was working for Metro. And we all know where to Pat Still and Cristina Mendonza ended up. If I think of anyone I left out I'll let you know.

Isn't Vicki doing that travel thing on tv?

I always remember that there was two types of KZAP. The Freeform Version (1968-79?) and the Burkhart-Abrams AOR Version (1979-92). i don't know if the years are correct, but I fondly remember the 1970's version of KZAP was more fun than the 1980's version.

I was just entering high school when 'zap went on the sir. It did a lot to help form an appreciation for a wide range of music. I remember one day they segued from japanese orchestra music to a folk singer (who's name escapes me) into some live Cream, then into Emmy Lou Harris. And it all worked!

Also, there was Travis T. Hipp, Jock Church, Melanie, Bill Prescott, Fred Gaines.....a very memorable crew

If Vicki Laviakas is actually Vicki Liviakas, she's at KRON/4 in San Francisco...

Kent Randles is the Senior Engineer for Entercom in Portland. I had lunch with him last summer when we were both visiting Sacramento. Tom Cale is living in near the ocean in McKinleyville, California and does work in information technologies.
Actually Tom got to KZAP after KSFM's demise and moved into mornings when Andy Rush exited. Jon Russell is still in SF last I heard, perhaps at the Bone, not sure. Jon came to KZAP from AM14-KXOA when Bruce Mier(sic) left for New York. Sorry, can't remember how he spelled his last name.

Count me in the second group. I worked worked midday's at Zap from early 1979 to early 1980 after the ownership change. Wow, long time ago...
