For those of you who may not know, 2007 marks the 25th anniversary of the 1982 World's Fair. Earlier in the year, Knoxville mayor Jim Haslam announced the sale of the old Candy Factory building and the Victorian houses near the World's Fair Park to help pay for the renovation of the Tennessee Amphitheatre and the Sunsphere, which they hope to open back up to the public by this fall. There is a really cool website that has a lot of information about the effort and about the fair, including a lot of pictures and even a couple of old TV spots from way back in 1982.
I had a chance to talk to the guys who put this website together a couple of weeks ago and I know they would really make a good news story, if you are looking for some stories, whether you be in Knoxville, Tri-Cities or Chattanooga. Just go to 1982worldsfair.com and go to the about us link in the upper right hand corner for contact info. As they said back in '82..."You've Got To Be There!"
(Figured since everyone had been talking about Knoxville radio history here lately,
this might interest someone)
