1st Class Broadcasters

After having read Brad's comments to Carla, and reading Jon's notes here, I'm reminded just how much class these gentlemen radiate. Radio's downsizing is so destructive to so many professional talented people it's no wonder the listener is sent searching elsewhere. Maybe....someday....radio will revert back to being informative entertainment, done by professionals like Brad, and Jon, and Mark so many many more.

All good points, that I agree with.

The problem we have to see resolved, is "corporate, deregulated ownership", under control by bean counters who do not have much of a clue.

I agree with the above. But it won't be long before someone drags Russ into this.
Your Right. Wasnt Long at all. In fact You Brought Him up just now :D :p ;)

The Giant Companies are what got rid of most if not all of the talent.

Well said..

A broadcaster/weather man of Brad's talent and ability won't be on the job market very long. He can and will do much better. KRLD, on the other hand, is struggling to stay afloat, and the station just dismissed one of its primary air staff. Everyone has noted the class with which Brad accepted the situation. KRLD, meanwhile, has no such class...and now, no Brad.

Thus another lose-lose deal for CBS to add to the list, just so they can have the cowboys? I am sure Jerry's grinning about all this.

I hate to see anybody get the axe in this business, especially solid pros like Brad and Mark. Unfortunately, it happens all to often. I first went on the air in 1969 and have been "shown the door" 12 times--twice in the last 16 months. It is never easy. I don't know Brad, but I worked with Mark at KLIF in 1981-83 and I've always admired his work. I'd kill to have his pipes.

Some guys would smoke in the old days to get a certain sound.

And a lot died young.

Ah heck. I've been smokin' 4 packs a day for 41 years.....and there's nothing wrong with my lung. Well, truthfully, I gave up the habit in 1996. Can't really tell any difference in my voice.
