90s rock, heavy on the alternative side, including some out of left field album tracks. That format lasted around 11ish years.Just chatting.......What was the format for 103.5 before they changed to the new format? Did they change because they got new owners, or a new PD, or they were not doing well with the old format?
Thank you! My extended family is from Pittsburg, and Galena KS, plus Joplin MO. My aunts and uncles 3 generations back operated a little general store on the old Route 66. They sold supplies and travel goods to motorists moving out west during the depression of the 1930’s. Not too many people know about Pittsburg KS. Thank you very much for providing this information. — Daryl90s rock, heavy on the alternative side, including some out of left field album tracks. That format lasted around 11ish years.
No ownership change with this flip. MyTown is a fairly small company, with a primary focus on Southeast Kansas (Pittsburg being the core city), though they have been slowly moving westward in the Sunflower State for the last decade or so, and are now just getting into the heart of the Wichita market with their recent 5-station purchase from Rocking M as part of their bankruptcy. As for a new PD or ratings, I’m not privy to that info, though they did go up against KJML, which targets nearby Joplin, Missouri with their more straight-forward classic rock format.
They were all over the place when I was there. Lot of heavy metal, a bit of new wave (psychedelic furs, smiths), post grunge and some unedited songs too (like "Little Lion Man" by Mumford.) I didn't get a 90s lean from it, but maybe did later on.90s rock, heavy on the alternative side, including some out of left field album tracks. That format lasted around 11ish years.

I’ll amend my earlier comment: it was mostly alternative, with a heavy focus on the 90s and 2K, but stretching on both ends. (It was heavily 90s focused as recently as last year.)They were all over the place when I was there. They might have focused it more since I was there (early 10s.) They played both Five Finger Death Punch and The Smiths back then, so I just found it a strange rock station.I’ll amend my earlier comment: it was mostly alternative, with a heavy focus on the 90s and 2K, but stretching on both ends.
