2 All News Stations the Top Billers Here in 2009

All Access has an article this morning listing the 10 stations that had the highest revenues last year in the entire country. The local stations that were on the list, in order, were:
WCBS AM 43.6 million
WINS 42.9 million
WLTW 41.6 million
WHTZ 38.3 million

New York was the #2 top billing market. Los Angeles was #1. The station with the highest revenue was KIIS, the L.A. CHR.

Is this the first time L.A. has edged out N.Y. as the overall top billing city?

No suprises there when it comes to the N.Y stations. WBCS and WINS have the high income and male demos(I assume) and WLTW has the big lead in cume. KROQ in L.A with its low ratings is mind numbing though. There might not be a rock crowd in N.Y like there is L.A but with ROQ doing that well in L.A CBS would be crazy not to try the formula in N.Y.

and I want to see the complete top 10 for NY and LA :(

No, they have good share and a very high commercial load, allowing more revenue capacity.

and WLTW has the big lead in cume.

WLTW has high 25-54 ratings. Advertising is not bought principally on cume, but on the cost per ratings point.

KROQ in L.A with its low ratings is mind numbing though.

In its target, KROQ is huge. It can be around 3rd or 4th in 25-54, after KIIS and KOST.

There might not be a rock crowd in N.Y like there is L.A but with ROQ doing that well in L.A CBS would be crazy not to try the formula in N.Y.

KROQ has about 3 decades of history and service to this segment, and to some extent has built the following. That does not mean it would work as a launch in NY.

Both have been in the respective cities local press already.

LA, the bigger market, is thus: KIIS, KROQ, KFI, KOST, KBIG, KPWR, KCBS (Jack), KLVE, KRTH, KNX.

NY is: WCBS, WINS, WL>TW, WHTZ, WFAN, WAXQ, WBLS, WSKQ, WPLJ, WQHT

5. UNIVISION BROADCASTING -- $325,425,000

There is no such thing as Univision Broadcasting.

No. LA has been way ahead of NY for decades.

How much did KLSX/KRAMP bill for 2009? Can't find that info anywhere...

It ranked 24th, a little under KKLA.

Since January is such a weak month, and moreso last year, almost all the revenue is Amp's.

Considering that revenue lags ratings by 6 to 12 months, that is not a bad showing in an awful year, where LA revenues were off a third from their peak.

Was the billing around the "low" $30 million mark?

Not even close. There are three FMs in the "low 30's" and they are essentially tied for 5th in billing. Stations 8 to 14 bill from $20 to $28 million. #20 does about $15 million.

Amp comes in at 24th.

;D I was being sarcastic, due to the controversy of KLSX billing $30 million, and people referring to that as a low mark.

KLSX billed, at its peak, over $50 million. But then you-know-who left, and in 2008 the revenue was less than half that... and dropping like the proverbial rock.

Unless propelled by Stern, testosterone talk did not work, and is pretty much dead everywhere.
