WBLS Vaughn Harper ( Quiet Storm host ) and Champaine ( Overnight host ) exit Inner City's Urban A/C station.

that's one that i didn't even see coming...VERY sad for WBLS and anyone who grew up with them.... :(

too sad, right before the holidays , they need to get rid of some of the front office folk at bls. top heavy on the 40th floor, but may be those who got fired will go west and join vinny at kjlh, that station needs help.

i just hope that they both get work quickly - it's the old adage - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"...what was wrong with 'BLS on this one? Harper was around since BEFORE a LOT of the current 'BLS jocks were, and Champagne...it's just sad, that's all... :( :(

I used to listened to Vaughn Harper and Champagne on WBLS during the "Quiet Storm" for many years. I used to taped some old songs off the radio when it was on WBLS at the time, a number of years ago. Sadly it's gone, and not coming back. I don't see Hal Jackson go anytime soon, he'll be around on the "Sunday Classics".

agreed - besides which, i think even 'BLS management admits that Jackson is SO MUCH a part and parcel of not only WBLS, but the foundation of NYC r and b radio, that they don't DARE do ANYTHING to him or with him (FULL disclosure: I met Jackson some years ago and he was as nice and humble a man as he could be who deserves EVERY accolade he has gotten over his almost 70-year career in broadcasting...)

I guess the reccession and the PPM's have really affected stations like WBLS and other non-White formatted stations.

Thanks,
Kevin L. Sealy

I don't think this has much to do with the PPM's. WBLS was still a strong performer. It's just the sign of the times...the economy as it is at present, and the radio industry as it has been, unfortunately, for several years now. Nothing is sacred in the industry anymore, and moves like this are further hastening radio's demise.

why are you making such a statement, Kevin? ??? You, if ANYBODY, should know that the ENTIRE radio industry, as many other industries these days, is being affected by the recession...i'm just sorry that it had to fall upon both Vaughn and Champaign - two long-time WBLS stalwarts...

Maybe Riley has a separate deal or something? Kinda like what the Knicks are doing with Stephon Marbury these days, hmmm?? ???

It stinks....really stinks.

I can't help to think back to that thread about Hot 97's Angie Martinez and Funkmaster Flex a month ago or so. Only that 'BLS actually DID IT! They let their two franchise names go! If Frankie Crocker, God rest his soul, was still alive, he probably would have been canned too.

Radio continues to kill itself.....

sadly, Tony, i agree with you on this one... :( i'm old enough to remember Frankie in his vintage and he was one-of-a-kind unique, to say the least...
