Rest of Nevada 2 FM stations broadcasting within Area 51

Tonopah is at a highway intersection and has a population of 2,200, or a small town. It would be tough to run a radio station in a town that size now compared to several decades ago in same-sized towns had stations that flourished. It would likely need to be operated by the person or couple that owns it, likely without employees.

Last time I went thru Tonopah was on the way home from the PNW - took the scenic route.

Wasn't there at one time an LPFM there in town?

Three suggestions for the "playlist", all tied together:

Space Oddity - Bowie
Ashes To Ashes (references Major Tom from the first song) - Bowie
Major Tom - Peter Schilling

Tonopah had a commercial FM owned by a guy who was an employee at los alamos laboritories.... and wasnt essentially run into the ground and deleted

Who wasn't "essentially run into the ground and deleted?" The station, or the Los Alamos employee?
Maybe both?

oops, a typo i cant fix..... the station was on 92.7 and had some interesting billing and on air practicies over the years. i went looking for info one day, reached out to a realtor and we had some long chats.. turned out he used to work there. the station was run into the ground and deleted

And yet someone is:

Radio-Locator says six in Tonopah. More than I might have expected. Two translators, three with actual call signs, and one distant.

And then there is Rachel, NV. The famous little town with a reputation as the 'Gateway to Area 51', and home of the 'Little A'Le'Inn'. No local radio signals, and very few listenable distant.

But then, the population is only 48!

*sigh*

Even after I used Michi's site as my example, we're still doing the "Radio-Locator" thing ...

What does it take to get people to understand that they are not a reliably accurate source?

K.M., I tried going to fcc.org, but it's not opening, and eventually timed out. Technically we're in a government shutdown, is this the problem?

What Paul said.

@Michi's site is FCCdata.org, being a non-profit organization website ... the FCC is FCC.gov, being a government website
