Mobile 2 FM's about to get deleted

WBMH-FM 106.1 in Grove Hill, Ala., and WHOD-FM 94.5 in Jackson, Ala. are facing FCC deletion due to non-payment of regulatory fees. I listened to the streams today, and there are spots airing, so there is income. Anyone know what's going on with these stations? Why can't the owners pay their FCC fees?

Income doesn't mean profitability. Both stations went silent several years ago citing financial difficulties. Given they are rural -- and covering counties that have had declining populations, it would seem like that would be a difficult environment to run a business like a pair of radio stations.

Here is the FCC's order:

The licensee owes the Commission approx. $12,000.

Anyone know what's going on with these stations?
They're probably not profitable. WBMH and WHOD serve a poor and declining poor community. Median household income in Clarke County, Ala. is 30% less than the Alabama median. They previously went through a bankruptcy in 2018. The current licensee bought the stations in a bankruptcy auction.

Thanks to the city of license for these stations moving them to an area where there is a larger population will be difficult if not impossible.

Both of those stations are fine right where (and as) they are. There will be no "out of market takeovers" and the stations are very much viable. This was a glitch in paperwork and the "attempts at collection" were going somewhere other than to the owner who is unfamiliar with certain aspects of the FCC. Both WHOD and WBMH will both be back and operating in fine style very soon.

Technically they (you wattatcher) are probably more profitable than Audacy and all the other stations that are bankrupt.

Thanks, wattwatcher, for clearing that up for us.

You are most welcome. I apologize for not doing more of this but, I've observed that this site seems to deal more in gossip and personal attacks against some people and, as a result of this, I steer clear of it as much as I can and primarily rely on a friend who notified me when something appears here which needs correcting.

Based on the drastic reduction in traffic here as compared with the past, I'm not the only person so doing. Sadly, I think this site has gone the way of radio broadcasting in general and, just as with radio broadcasting, there will be no last minute salvation. None of this, meaning the entire industry, is what it once was. Nor, shall it ever be again. It can all die a slow death without me. I just hate to see it die a death recorded by outright lies, half-truths, innuendoes and stories reported as heard from the second cousin of the original engineer who worked for the brother of the janitor who was hired by the 14th owner who thinks he might've heard someone say that something could've happened a specific way if only he could recall who said it and why, although none of the facts support it, because someone thinks someone else has written it down this way.

I hear you. There certainly is quite a bit of what you describe on the site, but there are a group of pros, both currently working in the business as well as retired that try to keep the site as honest as possible. Also, the "ignore" feature can be a good thing.

Before the rush of translators (of which 92.5 and 96.5 are the only useful ones) 94.5 pumped in decently to Mobile on a good day before the catholic station signed on their translator.
