2 MORE DX TESTS THIS WEEKEND (8/23 TO 8/24)

Two More DX Tests Coming Up This Weekend... KHMO-AM 1070 Hannibal, MO and WLIQ-AM 1530 Quincy, IL.

For all the details, please visit http://www.onairdj.com/dx-tests

1070 is an IBOC mess here the last time I checked with both KYW and WTIC running HD. 1530 may be worth a try, I usually get ESPN radio out of Cincinnati at night, but not super strong.

If I have time, I'll try for KHMO 1070. It's mainly KNX and CFAX here and another 1070 would really help in the log.

1070 is a no go here with local KNTH occupying the position, but I'd like to report my findings here in north Houston for 1530 since local adjacent 1520 is off the air at night. I've never logged WLIQ from way down here. Would I even stand a chance of receiving it?

Anything is possible when AM skip comes into play.

It should easily cut through the mess with the morse code and stuff I have programmed for the test.

In all respect to this post, I question running anything on 1530 k.c. during night-time hours in the middle of the country. WCKY's signal is historically strong not just there but in many parts of North and Central America as well as into Canada.

I ran a DX Test with 250W from Northwest Mississippi that was logged along the Oregon Coast. Got right through 1520 in Oklahoma City.

WXKY is directional away from the midwest, and has no signal in Mexico and Central America (where there are quite a few stations on 1530). The 1530 station that can be heard where 1530 is not a local in the west, Mexico and Central America is KFBK.

DX tests have a habit of breaking through, even on crowded channels, particularly when distinctive music or test tones are used.

I ran a DX test on HCRM from Quito (570 kHz) in the 60's and got several dozen reports from the US, as well as from a number of other countries.

Much appreciated beforehand are the details of the tests, Gary and RadioGuy. I'm *somewhat* new to the DX-Reception forum here, and DXing is not the priority here that it was in my teens and 20's, but I don't recall ever seeing such explicit preparation outlines. It's almost as though the QSLs are already here and counted, hi.

Both seem do-able.
WCKY is a bomb here but does a dutifully deep face every so often. Since they talk overnight -- religious/brokered iIrc -- any kind of music on the frequency will stand out. Do you plan to play any James Brown or Screaming Trees, lol ?

Obstacles are a little different with 1070. Daytime omni local WKOK Sunbury is virtually MIA here on its directional 1000 w night and it's usually CHOK Canada atop a jumble of stations.

Will have both the bare-feet GE Superadio 2 and the Grundig S450 all fed and fueled.

It'll be good to hear another 'K' station, though. The most faithful 'K' in these parts is KYW. And they're not really a 'west' station. They're southEAST of me!
