2 more oldies on tv spots

Last week here in southern california Target used Max Frost and the Troupers' "Shape of things to come". This week Master Card uses "Walking in the sunshine" by Roger Miller!

oldies on tv spots

And a hundred more will still never cause a big re-think in radio and help the Oldies format to come back as it was 5 years ago.

The last time I read his post, he didn't imply they were.

But you and I both know most of that stuff gets posted in the hope the world will begin to notice the Oldies format is getting the shaft and if enough Oldies are in TV spots, shows and movies the format will have some sort of revival.

Yeah, that happens, but it seems that most of those posts seem to add a "If it's good enough for Target, why can't it be for station Wxxx" type thought. I could be wrong but it seems the original poster was just simply reporting something seen or heard.

Jonbruce, what say you?

oldies on spots

You may be right- I read it as "if it's good enough for Target, why can't the format stay alive with all these great songs".

The challenge of black n' white w/o "hearing" the poster.

I thought "Walking on sunshine" was done by "Katrina and the Wave" c. 1985. :)LONG LIVE THE 80s!!!!! Just kidding folks, the only thing good that came out of the 80s was " The Big Chill", and the classic rock/hits format.

The Roger Miller song was played as an oldie for a while after '67 from time to time on country stations, but not much. I can not recall ever hearing the Max Frost song after it was a current either. Basically I was just reporting what I heard, but it is interesting that "someone" in the advertising agencies is creating these spots, but agencies won't buy time outside of the 25-54 demo.

I sure hope that you're right. I don't want terrestrial radio taking any listeners away from satellite. If that happens, I might lose the best radio I've heard in decades.

How odd it is that the theme song from a bizarre late 60s American International hippy-dippy B-movie (with a young Richard Pryor!) is now used in an ad for a major discount store!
