I know..it's not directly radio related but there is some tangency here"

First "DO OR DIE FOR CD" http://www.nypost.com/seven/11242007/business/do_or_die_for_cd_433073.htm

For an industry in steep decline they seem to be up to business-as-usual, Pictured are Alicia Keys, who atleast can sing and the ever present rapper-with-pants-falling-off. Over the last two years it has been the rap/hip-hop sector that has shown the steepest declines in both sales and radio ratings. Think it might be time to move on?

The article mentions that it seems to be dawning on the industry that the piece-goods sale of music is coming to an end -infact thesale of music at all may be terminal and an ad-based free download may be the way to go. Some of us guessed this, oh, seven years ago.

Then we have a story about Univision Music.

http://www.nypost.com/seven/11192007/business/univision_music_losing_its_appeal_448719.htm

This article touched briefly on the Fonovisa bribery scandal. I don't see this as a big deal. That is, if your product is essentially the same as everyone else's (within the genre) why not just get down to business and pay your way-in.

From what I have personally seen, there is so much piracy of Latin music you have to wonder how long these labels can survive.

I think the post article is good, but I think that DRM-Free ad supported model for music dispersal will be second fiddle a Last.FM type service streamed over Wi-Fi on an iPhone knockoff.

Time to start taking internet radio and its superior quality seriously.
