In my opinion, Sandy Weaver and JoJo Morales are two of the most talented radio people in the U.S. They both live in Atlanta and don't have full-time jobs.
Sandy, by the way, was a great CHR jock in D.C. and then did the morning show on WMZQ, D.C.'s country station. She came to Atlanta in 1994, when her husband was transferred here. As everyone knows, she's leaving her part-time job at Kicks.
JoJo appears in obscure weekend slots on Star 94, such as after American Top 40 on Saturday nights.
It probably will be difficult if not impossible for either of them to land a full-time shift here. They're both older and probably expensive, 2 traits not consistent with most of today's jocks.
With almost all FM stations music intensive after morning drive, sounding great does not seem to be the most important qualification for getting hired. When a station has an excellent signal and processing, not much direct format competition, and good formatics (sometimes put in place by corporate), why shouldn't the station hire an adequate talent for half the price of a superior talent if doing so doesn't affect its ratings?
That seems to be the way things work these days. Maybe someone disagrees.
