2 overlapping newscasts from the same studio?

Tonight in the Quad Cities, WQAD's 10 P.M. news starts on schedule and is expected to end at 10:35 P.M. Because of the ball game on KLJB, their 9 P.M. news (also produced by WQAD) started at 10:26 P.M. How can two different newscasts air at the same time in the same studio by two different crews? Was KLJB's newscast recorded at its regular time and then tape delayed?

Let me guess...the 9pm newscast? And they're in that predicament again tonight, what with the Iowa high school girls' basketball tournament in already in progress and the Fox 18 News expected to start at 10 (although it'll probably be approximate after the games).

But here's an idea for WQAD and KLJB: When the former starts broadcasting in their new hi-def studio (come this Monday), they could keep the current 'temporary' studio for the latter in times like these...
