2-part question:

Okay, first off - does it sound viable to send
shredd and ragan to 97 ROCK (maybe afternoons?)
(for arguments sake)...

>Have BULL strictly focus on FOOTBALL
(as Rich Genzler)...

other talents will find work...I know that sounds harsh, but
it is a business....

Part II:
since there is SOO MUCH OVERLAP of classic rock on WEDG/97Rock..
create a POWERHOUSE loaded w/ talent on 97 ROCK - and open the
format on 103.3...to be ________ ( TBA)....

As it is, WEDG - "classic rock" and GOLDs (2000s) are 1:1 and
a majority of the playlist while the new (nu) Rock is *maybe* 50%....

Either:
1. create a TRUE NEW ROCK Channel on WEDG ...

OR
2. or shift everything to 97 ROCK and make WEDG/103.3 _____________
what would the new format be --- that is another question,
(in itself) if not broke, why fix it -

Thoughts?

97 Rock as a power station. Hmmm... I see what you are saying.

Maybe Norton in the morning, Bull and James mid-days (they can talk sports/pop culture/current events during their mic breaks), Shredd and Ragan in PM drive, Russo and Slick Tom 7pm to midnight.

Not sure about a new format for 103.3 FM. Let me sleep on it.

the "new" 97rock can be a topic,
later in the thread - but the focus
is on the WEDG/103.3 - if u were able to
free up the frequency - where / what would
be the most logical direction ??

It's funny that you say "the rest of the WEDG staff" because I think all but two programming employees work on the show. (Josh Potter and Jim Jacka as the ancillary staff on S&R) that only leaves Bull (which you had an out for) and James (who is also PD if I'm not mistaken.) So really it wouldn't take much

IF they blew up WEDG, the most LOGICAL direction would be country. WYRK rating look mighty fat. The problem is, what are they likely to get? If they get 1/3 of WYRK's ratings - which would take an expensive effort - they'd have the same numbers that they get now.

The easier answer is to increase differentiation between 97-Rock and The Edge. The Edge needs to be Edgier - an drop anything prior to 1990. 97-Rock needs to expand its music selection to include the '80s in a bigger way. Otherwise, they'll continue to see their audience age out of the money demos.

Until Norton decides to retire, I don't see any major changes happening, either with the format of either station or the weekday lineups of either station.

Shredd And Ragan don't want to go back to PM drive. They make their money and pull in the ratings in AM drive.

Until Larry leaves, they ride it out on 103.3 FM and eventually get their chance to replace Larry as the top dog for the company.

while under the microscope, more and more thinking about it -
( as I would kidd w/ my best friend "103.3 "new rock" ) and since
noticed it is "ROCK RADIO" ( not*saying) new rock any longer...

BUT
c'mon man !!
> I am paying closer attention and they are "adding"
Aerosmith's "Dream On" ( as that seems to be the regular HIT they play)
from a/smith, and HEARD / yes HEARD: "breakin' the law" judas priest...

Now, one can make a STRONG VALID argument that ROCK radio has a longer
shelf life - as if a station were to play a hit from 1975-1983 on an A/C or CHR
station it would stand out as "WOW"( good or bad)... ie: tina turner / mi-jackson
would sound 'dated' - some thing can be said about rock while sounding
"nostalgic'' doesn't sound 'dated' ( make sense?)

Anyways,
> WEDG seems to be a cross between hybrid college station / and
a 97 ROCK clone (if it were in a town WITHOUT 97 rock ) ....
as they stand by following the rules of playing somewhat obscure
rock bands, 90s "ANTHEMS" but then a hint of classic rock -
just like ...97 ROCK - there is too much overlap and not enough
distinction..between the two stations owned by the same cluster.
(similiar to star 102 and kiss 98.5) /

I know: bottom Line > as long as the bills are being paid, station is making money
don't change things - just seems there is MORE opportunity than just
keeping WEDG as it is - and/or - more room for excitement and growth
if they were to sit down and look at how to create a better station.

Top 3 suggestions:
? flip to all sports (on FM)
? 90s only ROCK (limits NEW rock/ and drops classic rock)
? Strictly NEW ROCK ( 2005- present) with focus on the NEW/CURRENTs...
these three keep the current lineup in tact.

?/or a 180 flip to Country - but I know that takes money, research and...
reinforces the reason - keep it as is................................ boring!

Shredd And Ragan are staying put in AM drive. Sales reps love selling their show. Easy sell in WNY.

Okay, but is it about hours tuned, or Cume?
