1. What is the current time for evening power down? 6:15 or so?

Oh, you mean KFNX 1100 Cave Creek. No need to refer to them
as "a local station." They're chronic offenders. Tonight, for
example--it's 9:15 as I write this and once again they haven't
powered down.

There are recent postings on this board re KFNX doing the same thing
several times in the same week. I will say that they had gone back
to playing by the rules, at least the several times I checked, after
those incidents, but tonight they're once again not operating per the
terms of their license.

As to a waste of time, I don't know. Does the FCC enforce their
rules if it's something other than Janet Jackson exposing a nipple?

for the most part, the fcc probably considers am & fm the same classification as the citizen band.

I would imagine that the person doing the complaining drives the response by the FCC.

If Joe Blow calls, the FCC probably files the call in the appropriate circular file. Now, if it is another AM station experiencing interference from the station, that is a different matter and will probably prompt action.

Just pure speculation on my part, based on the lack of enforcement action against KFNX.

The FCC probably wants some proof, such as day vs. night field strength readings at a specific location that they can compare with the licensed calculated field strength at that location... which should probably be in coordinates, not a street address. Otherwise, they have no real data other than "they were just as loud at 9 PM as at 5 PM" whch might not motivate them.

A note to the CE's at KFAX and WTAM would not hurt, either.

Thanks for the replies but it's NOT KFNX; it's KXXT!

My only proof is that I was wayyy up in the Bradshaw Mountains near Crown King and, as I often do, was listening to all the Phoenix stations die off into the evening. And lo and behold, there was KXXT coming in like a freight train loud and clear. Past 6:30. Past 7:00. Past 7:30. I don't know when (or if) they finally powered down. But this was on Oct. 7th; they also did same on Sept. 29th.

So my proof isn't any type of measurements but there's NO way they'd be putting in a solid signal like that in that location with their authorized hopping whopping 250 watt night authorization.

As I expected, I guess a complaint to the FCC is not worth the time.

Oh, and talk about a complete waste of bandwidth - unless you like polkas...

A note to the CE's at KFAX and WTAM would not hurt, either.

Don't forget KNZZ Grand Junction also.

You can add tonight (October 10) to the KXXT list of shame. As late as 7:50pm
they were still pegging the top 'o' the signal meter on my Sangean ATS 909.
Now, juuuuust after 8:00, they have finally powered down.

Oh, and talk about a complete waste of bandwidth - unless you like polkas...

What does it really matter to anyone on this board whether a station powers down at the appropriate time or not? How does this affect your lives?

And to want to file a complaint with the FCC because why?

Perhaps we were a little too harsh on the Gumpdusky lamptimer! In spite of yankin' the carrier in the middle of some lame overplayed oldie and not giving a legal ID, Lumberyard 14~Forty comes closer to hittin' local sunset than Colonblow 11~hundred or the Tolleson torch. Nurse Jeff tells me Walgreens sells those timers twofer $10.00
