2 Redsox Games to air on 96.5 HD2 Only

Due to the 6AM start time of the Redsox Game on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, the games will not be airing on WTIC AM 1080, but on 96.5 HD2 instead, which is normally a simulcast of WTIC.COM The reason for the goofy start times is because they're playing in Japan.

Look, I'm not a Redsox fan, but I think it sucks that the 2 games will be on 96.5 HD2. I know if I was a fan of the team, I would not go out at buy an HD Radio just to hear 2 games.

http://fybush.com/nerw.html (Scroll down to the Baseball Section).

WTIC has been pretty consistent over the years about not letting Red Sox baseball infringe on its most profitable dayparts -- daytime on weekdays. Until last year, there was always WHYN to fall back on, but that option is gone and pipsqueak 105.5's signal doesn't make it south of Hartford.

So how do the AM commuters -- except for the car HD receiver owner (Not me; I'm the home HD receiver owner. It's that other guy!) -- listen to the games in this part of Connecticut, other than getting an HD radio or subscribing to XM?

I think its a bad call for WTIC 1080 to do. Sure its during the morning rush and people want to hear news, traffic, and weather. I think they should of moved the game to 96.5 TIC. Im sure Craig and Company would be fine and listeners would be fine for two mornings. Wonder what made them not want to place the game on 96.5 TIC. That would a been a great idea or even just WTIC 1080. Now the reason I say 96.5 TIC is because they sometimes put UCONN basketball games their if both mens and womens teams play the same time and day. As for Lite 100.5 and Hot 93.7 we know those reasons, the kids want to listen to their Hot and moms/offices want to hear their soft rock from Lite.

...uhmm, and nobody wants to listen to C&C and hot AC in the mornings? I think your argument fails in that last sentence. It's the first 2 games for crying out loud! :)
What has happened in other markets? Anyone know what the Boston media are doing?

I am listening to HD2 on WTIC FM and it sounds good. When they go to commerical breaks they are not covering up the "Shaws WEEI Red Sox Radio Network" mentions.

Although when they just took a time out for station identification they did properly fill in "WTIC FM HD-2 Hartford"

I actually like the way it sounds on HD2.

I just noticed that the audio on WTIC FM HD2 is REALLY delayed.

I logged into my Slingbox at home and NESN was on the satellite reciever at home. Now viewing on a Slingbox is delayed by a few seconds (not to mention that the satellite signal is also about a second delayed) and the Slingbox was about 15 seconds AHEAD of the audio that is on WTIC FM HD2

The games are on WEEI 850 and its simulcast partners in Worcester, Providence, and Springfield. Not sure if the other Worcester station (WCRN/830) is carrying the game or not. Yes, the SOX are on 2 stations in Worcester. And WQUN 1220 in the New Haven Market is carrying the game.

WCRN/830 carried this morning's game and will also air Wednesday morning's game pre-empting the Peter Blute Show.

I heard it on WQUN. I wonder if they'll be carrying tomorrow's game and other mid-week day games as well. This part of Connecticut is a real coverage dead spot for the Sox since the Springfield move to the weaker signal. If I'm not mistaken, the only mid-week day game WTIC pre-empts its regular programming for is Opening Day.

Though WQUN (ie. New Haven area) is getting deep into Mets and Yankess country, wouldn't you agree? 600, 660 and 880 are powerhouses around here signal-wise. Does WAVZ broadcast any games with their useless signal?

There were rumors WAVZ was gonna start simulcasting The New York Yankees games from sister station WPOP in Hartford. Haven't heard anything about it lately tho.

I remember that being mentioned now. Seems like a waste to me as WCBS is such a strong signal around here.

Its just that the first 2 games are being played in Japan. Would it of hurt WTIC 1080 to just air the games instead of the morning show? Also if the Yankees were playing in the morning would WCBS 880 cover the game? Sure in NYC if you want news people could just flip over to 1010 WINS.
