2 Sad Stories this Friday

Condolences to Oldie King, family & friends on the loss of his niece Beth in that tragic DWI mow-down of the Southeastern University students in Hammond. Tragic.

Sorry to hear Captain Humble has had to close the Po-Boy shop. A choice between getting back in the house or being homeless and continuing to pay the bills. Victim of Katrina and the economy. I feel for ya Cap...thanks for all the great sammiches and memories! Best of luck getting back on your feet. We luv ya, and if ANY of you can help Cap out this weekend to help move stuff, please give him a helping hand.

In regards to the April 11th gathering, would ya'll still be game if we move it across the street from the ol' Cap's for some crawfish at the Boiling Pot? Just a thought...

Damn this sucks...

Bob I am so very sorry for your loss. That is terrible. I had no idea. Now I feel silly for bothering you last week.

Cap, if you read this or get my voicemail please contact me. I don't know if you had an attorney but you (and anyone else who owns a business) who feels like they were screwed by their insurance co. should know that I work for an attorney who successfully got many clients a nice chunk o'change. He will take the case on contingency. Call 523-8523 and ask for Randy Evans.

I ate at Cap's last weekend and I will really miss his place. That man had the best of everything. My favorite is the bbq beef and Cap's smile.

I was there, too. My favorite is the great roast beef po-boy and Cap's wonderful stories!

Mrs. Fury, always the sweetie....thanks for putting the legal info up there.

Boy oh boy, I hate hearing about situations like your Cap. This day sucks with bad news. I worked for an attorney with MS and found out today that he is losing his home. He is one of those people who invite everyone to the house for parties, dinners and cookouts. He too is just one of those nice people. When I heard about it today, I felt terrible. I called to congratulate him on his retirement (he has no choice in his wheelchair, with use remaining only of his index finger and thumb to operate the switch on his wheelchair, though he still has that steel trap mind, but "of counsel" just doesn't make it for him).

In an effort to make him laugh, or even smile, I said, "I don't know whether to thank you or forgive you for dragging me back into [a profession] I swore I would never engage in again". I did not mention the foreclosure. Yep, they even throw people in wheelchairs out when they cannot manage. His entire firm jumped ship when his body failed progressively. I stuck around to take care of his practice for him, and when he pulled out, he commended me to the attorney who bought the place, with whom I still work. We have a reputation as being the law firm that inherited each other.

My former boss did not have a hurricane, but while he had his house on the market the water table shifted under him and that was that. His beautiful lakefront home.

Bob and Cap, sympathies and prayers.

As for April 11th... already planned to be in south La for better part of a week, with the sked get-together smack dab in the middle. If there's a way to put it together across the street, or any other place, count me in -- seems like we've got momentum on a pretty nice tradition...be a shame to have to let it go away.

Thanks to all of you for kind words. Silkie ----do I know u? Everyone else, stay tuned. This maybe isn't over.

I don't think so, Captain. Maybe I am just one of those people who think what has happened is awful. Always the nice ones, it seems, while the world just keeps on spinning and those who caused it have no clue - and would not care if they did have a clue. They'll get theirs, while decent people like us feel lousy over it.

Sorry to hear about the tragedy at Southeastern. Really saddens me. Condolences to the families.

As for the get together. I aint in radio anymore but you guys are all my friends now so let me know where it will be and I will be there. Cap you need any help and I am off than I am there.

Smashed

Bob, sorry to hear about your loss. I just found out the young man that was killed played football for John Curtis, and me being in the sports radio biz, met him when he was at Curtis. That's two of the people I either knew or a family member of someone I know that died in that senseless act by a fool.

Cap, sorry about losing the restaurant. I ate ther before, but never attended the radio function. I was just about to clear my schedule to be there. If you guys decide to get together someplace else I will definitely try to be there.
