2 same tv affiliates in One Market

No prob, Kelly. I know you are familiar with the thread in the Washington State TV section. It is really dismal over here, but still some bright lights with good effort and some rising stars who you just know are waiting for that big break. Tri-Cities has always had very beautiful (and skilled) anchors, both male and female, that are just here for the next step. Welcome to how it works in TV today! (I guess it always has). But as a veteran of major market (s), I find the errors comedic. But they have to learn somewhere I guess.

You're right, smaller markets including Eastern WA stations used to be the 'farm teams' within station groups. Even back when I was at Fisher, our VP of News used to keep an eye on the talent on smaller Fisher stations like Yakima and Pasco. We brought a couple up to Seattle, mostly they would have to gain their chops as Street Reporters first, then maybe weekend and holiday fill anchors. Now with so many stations around the country cutting talent ranks, there is a larger pool on the beach and less of a need for farm teams.

I remember we had a fast-rising star weather lady from Yakima. Brought her into Seattle for interviews with Steve, but she got cocky and demanding during the interview. Because of attitude, they decided to pass. Botching the interview happens with any job opening I guess...

And KIMA looked eons better under Fisher and Retlaw. Two anchors and a longtime weatherman in those days, and a set (by the early 2000s) with a wide shot of the Yakima Valley. Not bad for an under-100 market. In fact, some young lady by the name of Michelle 'Bingle' worked there in the mid '90s doing evening news. Today she's Michelle Millman over at KIRO 7. But today it's a laughing stock. She'd probably laugh at how embarrassing the station looks today.
They are even comical with turning it over to WX. As I said before it's pretaped at KEPR Pasco. The anchor 'asks' the videotape a question.
'Mike, are we going to reach 60 degrees this week?'
PAUSE.
'Yes, Jake, we may, by Friday...'

Hartford, CT and Springfield, MA each have their own NBC affiliate even those these two cities are less than 30 miles apart.

Now we need to measure the distance between Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington, CT for WVIT-TV channel 30 of New Britain and Provin Mountain in Agawam, MA for WWLP-TV channel 22.

You'll also notice that Hartford is closer to Springfield, MA than it is to New Haven. My guess that Hartford and Springfield weren't combines due to a pesky little state line in between Enfield, CT and Longmeadow, MA. However, Hartford and Springfield DO share Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, CT. Technically, it's "our" airport here in Connecticut.

Now I must check the distance from Rattlesnake Mountain to Madmere Mountain in Hamden. That's the site for in-market WTNH-TV (ABC) channel 8 and WCTX-TV (MY) channel 59 of New Haven. Thanks to channel sharing, WCTX-TV is really a subchannel of WTNH-TV. (Channel 8-3, but the TV would show 59-1.)

Speaking of channel 59...this market used to have W59AA, licensed to West Haven. That was a translator for WVIT-TV (NBC) channel 30 of New Britain until the early 1990s or so.
