2 sends 2 to Denver

WSB-TV has sent not only Monica Pearson, but Lori Geary as well to cover the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

I don't think anyone else sent anyone to Denver. WXIA/WATL is relying on sister KUSA, and WAGA will rely on Fox News and sister O&O KDVR. Don't know what WGCL is doing.

I am assuming Lori Geary (and either John or Monica) will be in St. Paul next week for the Republican convention.

Another reason WSB-TV stays #1...they open up the checkbook and let the fresh air in.

The blog www.recoveringjournalist.com mentioned this week that is costs approximately $50K for a local to send a reporter to cover the convention(s). $50K would nearly cover the hire of a street reporter for an entire year in most markets. I think that WXIA made the smartest move - outsource to a partner in Denver or use an O & O.

Shirley opened one day - that is about the only angle of local importance (maybe Jimmy Carter on a slow news day which I don't think there really was one at the DNC). All the locals could have received pool video of Mayor Franklin.
