2 Shows GONE !

I for one will miss TBTL. Maybe I'll be the only one. So much for the youth movement. Enjoy your 55+, Bonneville....I am 45 any you are now too old for me. At least I can empty the 97.3 space on my presets.

It's great to know radio is so vibrant and successful! Truly, the "guru" is correct - radio will be king for a thousand years! King, I tell you - king!

Actually, I am bummed that T-Man is a casualty of the decline and fall of the radio medium. But, there will be many more still to come so let's not shed too many tears yet.

As for "TBTL" - AKA 'Cougar & The Fatman' - egh. Isn't KPLU advertising for a weekend newsreader?

I would bet T-Man could have stayed on if he were willing to work for about 1/3 of what he was making.

Shall we say maybe making Jackie and Bender money.

CC saw the opportunity to save a whole crapload of money and they took it.

I for one will miss the t-man, although I haven't listened to him loyally since 2006. I remember waking up every morning in Middle/High school to DA DA DA at 6:01AM. Been listening ever since '1995..

But alas, once CC bought them, he couldn't be as free on air, and it slowly dwindled. He used to let his show run to 10:05, one time even to 10:20! now it sounds like a group of people talking current entertainment gossip and not as much local fare. He is a little crude at times, but not like it used to be.

But for 14 years, man it says something for Seattle radio. I guess Kate and Alley won that battle against t-man, didn't think I'd see that happen.

Kylie,

Look, I know you've been burned by the radio industry. I have been too. It's a HORRIBLE business today unless you're a total suck-up (or at least play the part well enough to pass.) But the reality is, it's not the medium itself that is bad Kylie, it's the people CONTROLLING it.

Remove our self-appointed "experts" and bring back tight ownership caps and radio might have a chance for survival..............

I think I've been burned in different ways than you --- my burns have been romantic; let's face it, for everything mean (=factual) I may say about radio it's true DJs are the best in bed.

THAT SAID, I have never worked at a radio station, nor do I now.

I also want to say I love listening to radio. I don't criticize because I hate, I criticize because I love and I'll probably miss radio once the final signal has been cycled down in 2014 or 2015 or so.

Well, gee- whatta shock. A Wolfman/Stern non-entertaining ripoff and an overgrown little boy with a valley girl. Who would have guessed?

I ranted about Burbank since the beginning and it had nothing to do with demos - it had to do with zero entertainment value. And now that PPM is showing that Burbank and Doris Munson are only big shots in their own minds, change was inevitable. I hope KIRO-FM DOES regain its status as an adult station and you don't need to shoot for 60 yr olds. What you need is brrrrroad entertainment. That's why it's called BROADcasting. If you want to appeal to sardonic, smug hipsters who see great entertainment in discussing their weight and bowling scores, try HD radio, college radio, net radio or a CB.

I wish Luke and his Merry Pranksters (junior edition) no ill will - just go infuse some other market with your uber-hipster sense of humor. If Tarantino ever buys a station, you guys are SO in ...

If I'm not mistaken, I think Dori is the only thing propping up KIRO right now. Didn't someone post the breakdown a few weeks ago and Dori was still holding on in the top 5 while everyone else was in the gutter?

Anyway, whatever ... the thing that really killed "TBTL" is the host treated it like his hobby instead of his job. Anytime he wanted a little R&R they'd just shut the show down for a couple days or weeks, then restart it once he was nice and refreshed. That's what you do what you're running some podcast out of your garage, not a radio show on a major talk station. (But, now that he'll be running a podcast out of his garage I guess it all works out! LOL!)

kylie - Real good point. When the show first started, I wanted to like it. My initial problem was the oh-so-cute name. Kind of like saying "I sent you a Tweet". As an adult, I cringe at the goofy stuff. I'm old enough to be Burbank's daddy but have always had a young look at life and ready toi try about anything. One problem was that the suits at KIRO seemed to equate youth with talent. Just because they all sounded like Archie & Veronica didn't mean it was entertaining. Also, as posited by Marshall McLuhan (sp?) - radio is a "hot" medium and TV is "cool". Over the top is good on radio because our mind gets to fill in the gaps. But can you imagine Doris Monson on TV? Have mercy! The little, unattractive loud man would not translate well. The old line about having a "face for radio" is there for a reason - myself included, btw.

And then, as I tried to give the show time, Burbank kept disappearing. Like you said, he treated it as a hobby. And that miserable gal pal would fill in, sounding like a dug-up Valley Girl to the max ... it was hideous. He'd come back a few nights later nd they'd go one about their weight for a half hour. Completely vapid radio.

So Friday night my 12 yr old and I are headed home from the HS football game and I want to listen to Coast to Coast but stop at KIRO-FM as Burbank is signing off. I'm a sap so his emotional goodbye moved me a bit (even tho that, like EVERY thing else with that show, was way inside and unrelatable) but when they started singing along to "Don't Stop Believing", it became a sad satire. It went on for the length of the song and my kid was literally begging me to turn the caterwauling off. I didn't. Like a car wreck, I was perversley fascinated with a Ship of Fools, sailing off into the void and acting as if being booted out of port was a an excuse for a party. And it was his party and he could cry if he wanted to, I guess. He might be a good guy and I'm sure I'd enjoy having a beer with him but, man - KIRO made a good decsion on this one.

WKomm - not many people say that to Kylie in these parts! LOL ;) ;)

I was always curious why, if KIRO wanted a radio show for youth, they got a mid-30s dude and a cougar to host it. The few times I listened it seemed very contrived and forced. Like having your grandparents over to a kegger. I rather felt embarrassed for Burbank. The tomfoolery could be cute but Burbank should be at a stage in his life now where he is maturing his product, not running around like Peter Pan on E.

(Obviously I wasn't the only one who thought that way if they were only pulling in 1.4% of their radio listening target demo at 7PM.)

kylie - I don't know your board history but think you're accurate in your observations regarding KIRO FM. A guy in his mid 30's like Burbank is just too old to play the part of a radio slacker. When I hit my mid 40's, it was time to start looking outside CHR for a future. Even today. I think I could still bring it on a younger demo music format but it would just be weird - for me and the audience. The featherweight "wit" of Burbank, coupled with the Val Gal sidekick and a wispy producer doth not a show make. KIRO is learning some powerful lessons - change was called for but hipper hands need to be at the programming controls, IMO.

So the question now is...what will be on 7p-10p? Are they just going to bring in some sydnicated poopie or are they going to do a great, entertaining LOCAL show?

So who will replace Frank from 10-1? It's almost like firing the chef and just promoting the dishwasher, isn't it? Is Frank getting any kind of ratings in the 10-1a slot?
