20 on 20

What is the format of 20 on 20 on Sirius/XM exactly? It seems to mainly play songs that are duds on the chart, current pop music that is not a hit. They have a rhythmic lean but play very little rap. Occasionally they mix in a song from 2-3 years ago that was not much of a hit either.

The format seems very odd, and I can't imagine many of their subscribers like it. Why not change it to a true rhythmic leaning CHR, which Sirius/XM lacks, and Hits 1 can stay as it is now?

I agree!! I have said this forever. It used to be a rhythmic-leaner back before the merge happened and they dumped the channel. Those guys think they know everything. Who would listen to stiffs?

I think its supposed to be brand new, up and comming CHR songs mostly. "Future hits" type stuff, but with a couple of recurrents mixed in just to balance it out. I agree completely though. The station isn't good. 90% of what they play are stiffs. I can't imagine anyone is really listening to this station. Every time I turn over to it its garbage. Time spent listening on this station has gotta be an average of like 30 seconds lol. I agree completely that making it a rhythmic would be a great move. I remember (on XM atleast) Kiss XM (Before it became a symulcast of Kiss-FM in LA) was very rhythmic leaning. My vehicle now has Sirius and I don't understand at all why they won't put the symulcasts of Kiss-FM LA, and Z100 NY on Sirius as well. They are on XM only. I'm left with only Hits 1, yet I pay the same price as XM people do for their subscription! I haven't been a fan of much of their latest moves they have made with the service lately. Its just bad business practice. I think its funny that they dropped BBC Radio 1, but they play the BBC radio 1 official charts countdown on 20 on 20 on the weekends. Why not just keep BBC Radio 1 in the first place? I know it pissed a lot of people off when they suddenly dropped it without warning. I personally kinda liked listening to it from time to time just for a change of pace to see how things were going on the other side of the world lol.

What about the idea of a gold-based CHR station? They could play lots of CHR from the '90s and '00s. Most of current CHR music is rhythmic anyway.

I'm confused. I thought Sirius and XM merged. I bought a new car a few months ago and had a free 90-day subscription to Sirius XM that just lapsed a couple weeks ago. (I'll probably re-subscribe if they give me a good deal on it.)

I didn't realize anyone could still have Sirius that's not part of XM.

That was the one station that made Sirius/XM worth it for me. 1Xtra I mean.

KIIS and Z100 are on XM, because Clear Channel owns a percentage (10%?) of the actual XM bandwidth, and they use it to send out these stations, WGCI, Reach MD, Fox Sports, several Talk stations, etc. Clear Channel does not own any of the legacy Sirius bandwidth. (Also, note that "SiriusXM 2.0" is based on the XM system, and that over time, the old Sirius system will eventually be shut down entirely.)

I heard a sweeper on 20 on 20 that said "Pop ... Ahead!" and I think that is the best description I have for the format. It's trying to play a wider variety of songs for "hit music discovery" which I think I've also heard mentioned. Something else that those interested might look at is how much CanCon seems to get played on there - there are times I've heard 3 songs in a row that are all CanCon, and all (usually) not big hits, or possibly not even small hits in the USA. Bear in mind that although this does not apply to Sirius, on the XM side, 10% of all music selections across *all* channels that can be heard in Canada must be Canadian. So the special "Canadian" category channels do count for most of that 10%, but in addition to those, some CanCon must be played on other XM channels as well. I seem to especially catch CanCon on the weekends on 20 on 20.

I also agree they never should have dropped BBC 1. But, once they start closing down the legacy Sirius system, and expanding "SXM 2.0" hopefully it can come back to satellite.

Over the weekend, I heard deadmau5 "the Veldt" and Martin Solveig "the Night Out" on 20 on 20- songs that are still current over on BPM- so it does appear they're pulling songs over from other formats and trying to get a jump on new music and let Hits 1 be the mainstream CHR.

The station is getting worse and worse. They play more European/International stuff than anything. When 20 on 20 first re-launched (after they did their channel rearranging), it sounded good like the old 20 on 20 from XM. Now, it's a huge mess... the best CHR they had was KISS XM.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I wasn't aware of that. Hopefully I'll be able to get KIIS and Z100 once they shut down the old Sirius system, and hopefully you're right about BBC Radio 1 possibly comming back once this happens.
