Hartford/New Haven 20 years ago

20 years ago (I believe it was 6/4/04) was the premiere of one of the worst radio shows in Connecticut. It was called "The Jay Clark Show." It was hosted by me and aired Friday Nights 8PM-10PM on what was then SuperMax 990 WXCT in Southington. I signed a contract to lease 2 hours a week to do my show. It was a 14 week contract. (13 weeks, plus one week that I would miss a show due to a pre-planned trip). September 3rd should've been my last show, but Anda Productions, which was leasing 6AM-6PM Monday-Saturday took over the remaining airtime as of Monday 8/16/04, so my last "show" was 8/13. During that last show I just play one of ny CDs of music. Didn't speak on the air.

I was an arrogant brat. Station Manager Boz Profit tried to give me pointers on how to do a good show and I wanted nothing to do with his ideas. My only thoughts were My Show! My Show! My Show!

Anyway I believe I wound up doing something like 9 shows. I missed 3 shows. I missed one show because I was sick. I missed another because Boz was out of town and left Chief Engineer Ron Barnes in tcharge. (He and I did not get along) the 3rd show I missed was because of my trip.

During one show I let tge automation play PSAs and PI spots for 10 minutes straight. I was embarrassed because the CD I was playing on air began skipping. I sat in the lobby in tears.

And during the show I did the Friday after my trip I left the station in Dead Air mode for 10 minutes. I planned on using the last 10 minutes of my show to talk about my trip, but I wound up getting tounge tied and was mumbling incoherently for about 45 seconds. I had put my CDs away during the last commercial break. And there were no more PSA ads in the automation computer.

I sent a copy of one of my good shows to a bilingual DJ I admired at LaMega 910. Word got back to me that both the DJ and his boss at LaMega called it the worst crap they had ever heard.
