2005 changes: good or bad?

I mean good or bad from a listener standpoint as opposed to a business one:
WPRO-FM-GOOD: Hiring Kerry Collins for nights. Any kind of stability on the night should would have been good but Kerry was a good choice.
HJY-BAD: Laurenti leaving & Palmieri coming off the air.
B101-BAD: I actually don't think they made any changes in 2005 but the Palmer/Bina exits in late 2004 were bad enough to rate a carryover mention.
Hot 106-GOOD: Live morning show with Tessa & Baby J
KKB to Latina-BAD: Granted this worked out in terms of numbers but from a listening standpoint I assume everyone would rather have had KKB stay on the air.

> WPRO-FM-GOOD: I agree that hiring Kerry Collins was huge, but PRO-FM still seems mired in its competition-less state of bliss. That state of bliss is not a good thing; there are too many jocks on the station that have stale shows and that mail it in. Moreover, the amount of voicetracking and automation on the station is still laughable.

> HJY-NEUTRAL: I agree that 'HJY was hurt by the exits of Palmieri and Laurenti. However, I am one of the few defenders herein of Geoff Charles, and 'HJY's music variety is still top-notch. 'HJY might indeed be the "last station in Providence with a budget."

> B101-BAD: Agreed about Bina and Palmer. In addition, the focus shifted even more to the 80s and away from Oldies. This station, much like its sister down the dial, is still in need of some direction.

> Hot 106-BAD: Live morning show with Tessa & Baby J is not a positive, IMO. It is simply plugged in from South Carolina, & provided yet another way for Citadel to save money. The jocks on this station still are second-to-third rate, and the music can be better programmed.

Did you say focus? Yeah I thought so. Any station that plays both David Gates and Bread and You Can't Always Get What You Want needs some serious consulting. Wrong music and the wrong kind of staff.

I thought they were plugged in from EP unless they just came down here when the show kicked off.

> > KKB to Latina-BAD: Agreed.

Brangiforte wouldn't agree. He stepped into a pile of crap working at KKB and came up with a handful of gold going over to HJY. If they didn't also need a music director when Laurenti left the nationwide search would have had to be done for a co host. HJY made do. They may have the budget as you mentioned but they're starting to skimp.

I think it's a little too early for end of the year talk but I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway.

WPRO-FM- Same as it's been for years.

WSNE-Stats where the Bee leaves off with music in the mid 80's with a little bit of an overlap.

WHJY- Heritage, They won't topple.Glad to see Quinn and Cantara simulcasted in New Hampshire.

WSRS-Listen to them more than WSNE.New Jingles and wider variety of music.Bruce Palmer adds personalty to the station.

WCTK- Same as WHJY

WKKB- Good Move for Spanish listeners.Lack of FM er's playing Latino music.

WWBB-Switch to Classic Hit's,I am going to say good move with keeping DOO WOP and oldies syndication shows in the mix. I would I like it done locally much better. YES! But it's not a total alianation of 50's and 60's.I am glad Bruce is on WSRS now and I do not mean this in a bad way but I think with B101 somewhat heavy on the Classic Rock now I think Bruce would be fish out of water with the current music they are playing now.The move to WSRS is better suited for him.Glad he was able to be rehired at a sister CC station.

WEEI- Very Good! Great Numbers. It would not surprise me if they pass WPRO and WHJJ next Summer.Picking up the Red Sox and all.

Lite- BORING! with a capital B. Don't like mix of music. Don't like the imaging.
Needs massive overhaul.More than WSNE at this piont.I know I stand alone on that piont.

HOT 106- Ok I guess if your 15 years old.

As a side note. Glad to see Chris Dipaola lease out WBLQ to K-LOVE full-time. I believe Christain POP has a growing niche for dedicated listeners.
K-LOve's imaging and production is very proffesional. With the studios for station in Rockland California and a Box in sitting in Westerly. It sounds good.

NOW to the AM....................

WPRO- Glad Matt has the late morning GIG. At least I think he's permanent. Correct me if I'm Wrong.

WSKO- Does anyone listen to this station if there's not a game on?

WHJJ-Glad to see they came to thier senses and dumped Air America.
Helen is OK but not a big fan of Howie's.
Listening to Arlene more again.

Two good changes:
Moving Robby Bridges up to afternoon drive on WCTK. I'm pretty sure that happened in 2005.
Johnny Skidmarks on the Paul & Al show. I don't know what took them so long.

Initially, "Da Breakfuss Club" was plugged in from WWWZ-93.3 "Z-93" in Charleston, SC. Not long after, Citadel relocated hosts Tessa and Baby J to Providence, quite possibly as Providence is a larger market than Charleston (#87), but the simulcast remains with WWWZ.

According to a story in a Charleston newspaper (<a target="_blank" href=http://www.charleston.net/stories/?newsID=42333&section=preview>http://www.charleston.net/stories/?newsID=42333&section=preview</a>), the show is Citadel's highest-rated urban morning show, which is likely why it was chosen to replace Howard. Apparently, Citadel wants to eventually bring the morning show around to other urban outlets.

Good: WKKB flipping to Espanol.
Good: HOT 106 getting a local morning show.
Bad: WARL flipping to sports and WARL in general. They change their format as often as someone changes their underwear.
Bad: 102.7 flipping to Portugese.

Question - What's up with WALE 990 this year? Status Quo?

Their callers all sound Southern so I don't know how many RI locals are calling to give their opinions about the personal dramas listeners email them about.
