What do you thimk will be the changes in the market for 2006?
WQFM to AC
Does Jr 93.7 survive?
Does EZ 103 survive?
Does the Mountain pull the plug?
Does KRZ make a comeback?

Thoughts...

Citadel may try for another 1 or 2 books, after that I predict they'll attempt to try a simulcast (if this is possible) or they may try Oldies. If not Oldies you better believe it will be a format in which there is already 2 or 3 if not more of already in the market. In fact they may even attempt to re-package JR & keep it Country by flopping the call letters and changing the station's name. Now that would certainly be pathetic, but we've seen companies do this in the past.

> Does EZ 103 survive?

Same story here. It's doubtful Entercom will switch formats unless they are forced to and will kick & scream to the bitter end. WHAT? This market isn't sick of soon-to-be (3) AC stations playing the same songs OVER & OVER? Your kidding me! I guess these big companies today are so smart having 3 or 4 stations with the same format playing the SAME RECYCLED SONGS over and over. I guess that's where the $$$ is. It's gotta be! Just look at the success of JR,EZ103,(Every other cloned & failed format/station) etc, etc. That's where the BIG BUCKS ARE lemme tell ya!

The Mountain does not have the high ratings but I think it does better on a local level then we are aware of. Quite a few businesses have it on still to this day and the local flava, not to mention the local following and community involvmenr, it should be enough to keep The Mountain afloat at least for 2006.

> Does KRZ make a comeback?

Of course KRZ makes a comeback! That's like asking if little kids will ever get sick of candy. Absolutely not only does KRZ make a comeback, but they'll slide back to the top eventually. I can't believe the "crap" that passes for music today. There's a million younger people listening to it everday, so it's only a matter of time before ratings shoot up. KRZ's got that in the bag.

What? Is "The Mountain" being rated somewhere that's not on the local level?

Quite a

Sounds like anecdotal wishfulness to me, but time will tell.

I guess the definition of "younger people" makes the difference here. A "million" younger people listen to it everyday so it's only a matter of time before the ratings shoot up? Odd how these ratings seem to work. The Mountain's ratings aren't very good but they're doing well on a local level. KRZ has "millions" of listeners but the ratings just don't reflect that...yet?

RRRRRRR! Oh, I'm sorry, wrong answer.

KRZ I think finds themself in that suddenly (not really that sudden) limbo-like place...where yesterday's 25 year old is today's 36 year old and frankly tired of the same old crap. Not that every station's format isn't dedicated to the same old same old, but KRZ's music was crap from the start, when that 36 year old didn't know any better. Now they're starting to learn. Major re-vamp necessary there or the slide will continue.

The Mountain has quite a loyal following. People who listen to the Mountain never change the dial. That will keep it going for the forseeable future. Also don't forget their PD is Jim Rising who is also Entercom's operational manager for NEPA. I'm sure he has a lot of influence and the Mountain is his brainchild. He will do whatever he can to keep the Mountain on the air. They will never be top 5 but not every station can be. They have KRZ and Froggy that always stay in the top 5 so I would say Entercom has nothing to complain about. EZ will probably not change only because what format would they change to? And EZ has made some headway against Magic, however little. I know people who used to listen to Magic who actually switched because they like the lighter feel to EZ 103.

I do think changing WQFM to AC is a bad move. What is Shamrock hoping to do here. You have Magic for soft rock, EZ 103 for lighter AC, not to mention a number of hot AC stations and the River for AC hits of the 70's and 80's. I'm holding out hope that maybe Shamrock has allowed the AC rumor to run just to throw people off, but nothing would surprise me.

My predictions, FM-wise...

92.1: changes name, keeps the music and Penguins
92.9: no changes
93.7: relaunch with just country gold
94.1: no changes
94.3/730: don't mess with a good thing, no changes
95.7/97.1: no changes
97.9: no changes
98.5: live night jock?
101.3: no changes
101.9: will be at least one staff change and some shuffling
102.3: no changes
103.1: may I suggest swapping Delilah with John Tesh?
103.5: no changes
104.9: too early to tell
106.5: no changes
106.9: no changes

> 93.7: relaunch with just country gold

I don't see it. Citadel is notoriously impatient. This station started out strong and for whatever reasons has become a non-player. Where they once were contenders they now bring nothing to the table. I see a format change before summer. Don't know what, but I see it coming like a "Long Black Train"

> 104.9: too early to tell

This station could be the market's big success story if done right. Live local jocks and a high profile morning show can do it. There are enough castoffs out there from the big three to give them a pretty good staff if they're selective enough. Promotion is a big factor, too. Whoever, whatever you have it has to be promoted big. If done right, This could work!!!
