2006 Local TV Predictions

Let me first start by informing those who regularly read the posts on here that the reason I deleted my comment about WXXI programming is not because I said anything malicious, but because Scott Fybush was correct in answering the question who programs WXXI TV. I should have known that Bob Owens is in charge of programming. So I figured that I would just delete my original post and allow everyone to see the correct answer. What is ironic is that more people read my deleted post then they do when I actually write something.

With that said allow me to give you my predictions for the upcoming New Year.

Let’s start with Channels 8 and 31because this is where I believe the most action will take place. And before I start, please remember this is just my opinion and not the opinions of those who run this message board or anyone else with a sense of sanity left in them.

In an attempt to avoid regurgitating old news, by now most of you know, who are regular visitors to this board, that Channel 8 has undergone some on-air personnel changes in 2005 when it comes to their early morning program.

Two hosts were demoted to work as field reporters. One of them went to CNN while the other is still at 8, but the question remains for how long? Also two meteorologist/hosts left 8’s early morning show. One person went to another TV market while the second individual is now teaching at Brockport State College.

My prediction is that the current morning show will see even more personnel changes in the coming year. The current host could find herself heading back to her old job of anchoring FOX 31’s 10:00 news, while current FOX anchor moves to hosting duties on the early morning show and anchoring 8’s noon news.

It also wouldn’t surprise me if one, or even two veteran field reporters are no longer with Channel 8 by the end of 2006.

As for Channels 10 and 13, I don’t see any major changes at both of those stations. There might be some new reporters coming on board, but I think both stations have pretty much solidified their on-air staffs, at least for now.

There is one question I do have. I noticed on 13’s web page they list a Tricia Cruz as a reporter. Yet I’ve never seen her on the air. Does this woman still work at 13 or am I just missing her reports?
