2006 Predictions

Okay, I may be opening up one big can of worms, but all the kids are doing it. Does anyone have any predictions for the NEPA radio world of 2006???
I'm going to be totally lame and say
1) The top stations (Froggy, Magic, Rock107) will remain the top stations as
they have for these many many years.
2) QFM will beat The River in spite of their signal processing problems. Their
playlist is superior. Also, The River has been on for how long and there
is still a large number of people who don't know it even exists.
3) Citadel will flip JR to something else...don't know what, but I can't
see them keeping it on the air. The simulcast Cat Country from Allentown
got better numbers.
4) Yonk will win a Pulitzer Prize.

(1) Way down the line this year, some conglom will buy WARM, fix it up and scare the large colon contents out of the other broadcasters.

(2) WVIA-FM's original plans, some years back, to program another station with its unused NPR (and other networks') programming might get another look. [I don't want any flak from WVIA on this because you told me you were going to do it and you told me how; it was a big secret at the time.]

(3) SatRadio will be an "oh, yeah; I forgot about that" thing in NEPA, as money is tight here and cable rates aren't getting any cheaper. People who subscribe for a year won't renew after the novelty wears off and the ever-rising cost sinks in.

(4) Sue Henry, in addition to continuing her program on WILK, will assume some managerial duties at the Great 98.

(5) Howard Beale will be revealed.

I would love to see WVIA buy WARM, fix it up and establish an AM station. That would allow for something similar to WNYC AM & FM prior to 9-11. I am certain that people would listen but I do not know if this area would support (financially) 2 public radio stations as well as the TV station.

Funny you should say that.....

If you go along 315 and pass the sign for the WVIA complex, you will see that it says something like "WVIA AM, FM, TV" on it. I keep forgetting to take a photo before Big Billy sees a post about it here and has the "AM" painted over.<P ID="signature">______________

I don't know if I would say it is a superior playlist...each station is what it is. It will be interesting to see what each of them does individually. I do think QFM has the edge in Luzerne County. It will also be interesting to see if either of them go with announcers, since the standard for a variety station is to go jockless.

Eh, ok.. there are a lotta mights involved though:

1) KRZ might get a night jock.
2) WWRR might add station elements
3) WQFM might evaluate and change processing
4) WNAK might morph into oldies, now that their AM's are all doing WNAK like music.
5) WARM's transmitter will go on strike until better programming is sent through it.
6) Few stations that have been around for awhile might drop 'new' out of their station imaging.
7) WFEZ might start Christmas music on October 15th, and follow WQFM's 2005 move: change formats.
8) Polkas everyday on WCDL.

Who knows if any of this will happen, but some can think.

A very valid prediction. Each promotes itself very
well and each one never strays very far from their mission.

I can't help but think that the powers that be at Bold Gold
might be holding back because of the lack of an oldies
frequency on FM. The River happened late Sept/October, then
on Nov. 1 QFM went all Holiday. It would give me second
thoughts because right now, there is no Oldies format on FM
which is hysterical because just a few years back there were 3.

I don't think they'll touch it because if they run true to
form, they are ignoring it. If it doesn't go "cah ching", they
don't even bother with it. Look for "nothing" to happen.

> From your lips to God's ears. Seriously, I'm just hoping to
get the story in front of someone on a national level
that'll most likely kick my a** and tell me to go home. That
would be enough for me.
