2007 Career Achievement Inductee Candidates

Should the voters base their decisions on the Atlanta portion of the candidates' careers or on their total careers? For instance, Bill Drake became the superstar of superstars in the business, but his time in Atlanta was very short and long ago. On the other hand, though Steve Goss did not accomplish quite as much as Bill Drake, Goss's career has been in Atlanta.

A very good question. However I think their entire career should be fair game. the reason why is because of the people that have already been named into the Hall as deceased (Rod Rodney for example that made it big nationally). I am very happy with the names up for nomination. I am very pleased cause there seems to be a good mix of current talent and legendary talent from days gone by.

Looks like names from all over the state are on the list. Can't wait to see who is voted for induction.

Lots of deserving people on this list but I hope there are more names to be added later. I can think of a couple dozen people, several of whom were giants in the industry, that aren't among the candidates listed.

You're right Gertrude, the list is a good one and includes people from all over the state.
The people on the list were NOMINATED by MEMBERS. No more names will be added this year because member nominations ended May 31, 2007. To get the "couple dozen people" on next years list and to vote on this years candidates, join! Just go to MEMBERSHIP at www.grhof.com

As for the earlier posts about voting criteria, this is the GEORGIA Radio Hall of Fame, not the ATLANTA Radio Hall of Fame.

Just read in claude hall's blog that there is going to be a reunion of Quixie staffers from the 60's at this thing. The list of names is a hall of fame unto itself.

No, to be a lifetime member of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame, and to be the benefactor of all the priviledges that accompany membership. For a better understanding of what our organization's purpose is, please visit our website www.grhof.com.

Oh yes I can think of several names that are deserving and not on the initial list (many from the Sports Broadcasting area). However, I think this is a good starting point.

How about starting with people like Jack Hurst (keep your eye on the ball) and Al Ciraldo (GT). Any hof that has Larry Munson and not Al Ciraldo(Toe meets leather), in its first group is way off base.

And grhof please don't give us the anyone could nominate for $25 membership stuff.

A common sense initial list of originals should have been developed and nominated by the hall and then let members add to it.
You have to be crazy not to nominate Skip and Pete in the first group as well, they have been the Braves for over 30 years. It hurts the hof credibility not to have them on the first list of nominee's.
It is wrong to think people who think radio "history" is 1995 could make proper call on who should be nominated.

Anybody know what this means?

If you're going to compile a list of career achievement candidates, grab some names further back than a couple of years ago - after all, radio has been around since the early/middle part of the last century!

Speaking of THE LIST, it looks like jocks make up about 99% on this first list. What about the owners, managers, pd's, engineers, sales people and others who had an impact on Georgia broadcasting?

There has been much discussion here about the nominees for 2007. We are pleased to be able to share pictures and brief bios of those nominated by our growing membership. Go here:www.grhof.com and click on 2007 Career Achievement Candidates. Below the list of names is another place to click for that information. There are many who deserve recognition, yet, were not nominated this year. That does not diminish their importance to radio in our state.

Great to be able to read about people whom I have never known or heard about and to see faces also.

Lots of familiar faces and names and new ones it's nice to get to know.
