- Eagle becomes classic rock following the acquisition by Citadel Communications.
- WGST comes close to a 3 share.
- Dave finally throws in the towel, flips to Jack.
- Ever impatient Clear Channel flips Viva to tropical.
You people are still predicting a Dave flip? They have continued to make improvements in their target demo (25-54, which is also a great ad demo) and are sitting fairly decently (Top 10 in their demo in all dayparts, I believe).
Also, everyone always seems to forget to mention that they have the great equalizer; a rich relative. V103 is absolutely destroying it. Unless I'm mistaken, their revenue is second only to WSB. As long as Dave even keeps in in the neighborhood, they will be fine, because CBS/Infinity's wagon is strapped to the V pony, and that pony is running pretty stong...
I predict Star 94 will go more rhythmic like 95.5. wonder if project 9-6-1 will make it through the end of the year?
don't think 92.9 will go Jack, I agree with the statement as long as the big V keeps bringing in the cash, the eyes aren't going to be on Dave that much, unless something drastic happens.
I am not sure if Project 96.1 will work. I believe there were plenty of dedicated 96 rock listeners that will never listen to Project 96.1. The buzz was doing well before the filp, will the old Buzz listeners like the mix of old and new? I think DAVE and 99x will benefit the most of the flip, unless another station filps to classic rock with a good line up of DJs.
Eagle is not likely to change formats. It could be tweaked to make it more different from Kicks, but it probably will remain country.
As someone who buys time on radio, I can tell you that Disney adds the Kicks and Eagle numbers together and sells the stations as a combo. Now with the competition coming from the Bull, adding the two stations together will become even more important because buyers will be comparing the ratings of the Bull to those of the Kicks/Eagle combo.
Citadel could of course change the format and still add the two stations together. But that would be perceived more as just adding stations rather than the Disney (Citadel) country product versus the Bull country product.
If Dave doesn't flip this year then I won't expect it to for a long time. However, I make some predicitions based on the idea of what many radio fans expect the companies to do, and then said companies don't do it (see: CBS Radio New York).
No. Dave is a triple A station. They play rock music with an AC lean. They also have personalities on the station. Jack is an adult hits format. They play hit music from the last 40-some years. 99% of Jack stations are jockless.
