2007????

Interested in hearing your predictions for Tampa Bay radio in 200. Will we still have umpteen stations playing the greatest hits of the 60's, 70's and 80's? Any hope for more local talk, or more local news?
Will the FCC's review of consolidation free some stations from the grip of major companies for local ownership?
Like to hear your thoughts..and Happy New Year, everyone

As far as predictions go:

Obvious:
--AM 1010 will change either formats or names at least once.

Possible:
--Mix 100.7 will change to Spanish and 101.5 The Point reacts by tweaking their format into a more 80's through today "Movin" type playlist. If 100.7 remains A/C, 101.5 eventually gives up on 80's and more and becomes an urban A/C jukebox. Cox won't make a move till Clear Channel does. They'll wait it out like they did with Thunder.

Certain:
--105.5 WDUV will remain Tampa Bay's most listened to radio station and 99.5 WQYK will continune it's dominance as Tampa Bay's #1 country station (according to Arbitron).

Advice for the Cox group:
-- 97X is moved to 101.5 (X101-5) giving those guys a shot at really knocking off 98Rock once and for all and giving the Bay a full powered alternative rock station. Use the 97.1 frequency as a place for something different. Something that would make people want to tune into a underpowered frequency. I say classic alternative with an independent feel. Maybe something like "Indie97" or "i-97". That way you sell your classic rock/hits to middle age males (102.5 and 107.3), your A/C to middle age females (94.9 and 105.5) and your classic/new alternatives to young males and females (97.1 and 101.5).

Advice for the CBS group:
Stick with what you've got. All stations are serving target audiences and all should continuue to bill well. Oops... forgot about AM 1010. Dump it.

Advice for the Clear Channel group:
If you work there... keep your resume fresh. Trash 100.7, start over. Don't get cheap with 970 WFLA. Broaden and open up the playlist for US-103.5. Consistancy for 98Rock.

Advice for Genesis:
Keep trying. Be local... different.

If Cox were to move the X to a better signal, my prediction for 97.1 would be satellite news-talk. They own Boortz and Clark Howard, I could see them yanking those shows from WWBA.

And the problem with 101.5 into and Urban AC is that 1150 has Tom Joyner.... Cox is VERY successful with Joyner and UAC in South Florida and Orlando. They'd have to be able to pull Joyner away to make that fly here.

As constantly evolving as this medium is, making predictions would be somewhat fruitless. However, I would like to see a few things...

...1010 drop Yankee baseball and switch back to a classic country format.
...620 drop Dan Sileo and replace him with Ron & Ian, and drop Fox Sports Radio for SNR when 1010 drops sports.
...Clear Channel get rid of those fricking Morgan & Morgan spots at the start or end of every stinking commercial segment (is there a standing order for that over there or something?). In fact, why not Clear Channel make an effort not to try to jam so many commercials period down our collective throats.
...97X go to 101.5 (although it would mean having to hear interference on my walkman from 107.3).
...Clear Channel find a better way of presenting the commercial sponsor for the traffic reports (as in take a hint of how the Orlando stations are doing it--having the commercial voice-over read the spot over the normal traffic bumper music and without having to say "this traffic report is brought to you by..."). Speaking of traffic, listening to Wayne Hagins is really starting to get on my nerves.
...100.7 drop their entire format.
...Magic 94.9 stop cramming that drivel known as Delilah for ten stinking hours straight!!
...and most importantly, in my opinion...

BRING BACK OLIVIA FOX!!!!!

Post number one. I'll try my best.

My Genesis advice: If you can't boost the signal, at least improve the live streaming to where it doesn't try to buffer every 2-3 minutes on a more-than-capable computer and internet connection. Being anywhere outside of Pinellas County, southern Pasco, and western Hillsborough is troublesome when you prefer Larsen, Boortz, and Savage over AM Tampa Bay, Beck, and Hannity.

Other than that, I like Genesis' style of bringing in productive people who have become too "expendable" for Clear Channel. Keep it up.
