2009 - OUCH!

Doesn't feel like we're wrapping up a "banner year".

* Cheap Channel, Citadel bankruptcies ... others on verge. Yet among all those layoffs, cuts, etc. the fat cats got fatter.
* MORE voicetracking, syndication, LESS local commitment and presence
* Kirby Wilbur, T-Man, Ichabod, Jane Shannon, Marty Riemer+ lose morning gigs -- none of the replacements seem to have set the world on fire as a huge step forward
* PPM woke some folks up to realize what we THOUGHT was cool --- really, in many cases, had no clothes
* KIRO -- wtf??
* KOMO adds an FM
* Salem -- wtf?? (and no change with that literal "flamethrower" of a stick for KKOL!)
* KRKO tower issue with (maybe ELF??)
* KMCQ -- got on air as K-POD. KAFE makes commitment to shift frequencies to accommodate.
* Decent coverage/community awareness on the officer shooting issues -- radio did good job bringing people closer together (though TV really carried this one)
* Loss of P/I and, in turn, our primary "credible" media buddy, Bill Virgin, who did a great job keeping us "looped"
* Speaking of "looped" -- O'Day had milestone bday this year, and some surprised given his former lifestyle that he reached it. Ironically, THIS generation knows him for anti-drinking schtick -- or, uh, Schick.

But through all that ... there was still a lot of good radio to be heard in these parts.

WHAT DO YOU REMEMBER??

note to Dialtwister -- care to explain what your comment about KIXI is supposed to mean? I suppose there's some level of meaning there, but it isn't being communicated well.

The whole damn radio industry since 1996 - - wtf?

Indeed, it's been horrible! Let's see... Now with the new and accurate way to determine when and what people listen to, now we have actual information on what people want in their radio listening. In fact, radio listenership is growing faster than it has in years.

Some of the old greats in Seattle and other markets are retiring or moving on, so now stations can concentrate on what actual radio listeners want...music or relevant news and information.

Gee, I guess it wasn't all bad after all now was it?
