2009 PREDICTIONS

Just my 2 cents
PRO-FM: The only possible daytime chance could be elimination of Will as morning show producer and saving money using a board op. It'd be a mistake as he's really a part of the team itself but you never know. Maybe nights getting syndicated from elsewhere eventually.
COAST: Doesn't look like there will be a female co-host. Will Tad stay on or bail out the first chance he gets.
HJY: I really do see a program director change here. It's time. What about Charles? Is his audience dwindling? Did he go to Amsterdam this New Years as usual. I'm wondering with the economy being what it is how many were able to spend the bucks.
CAT COUNTRY: No changes unless they join the penny pinching rest-of-the-market
LITE: Charlie Jefferds finally retires
HOT: No opinion. Never listen.
B101: No change. I seriously doubt they would replace the morning show. There'd be no sense in it. A new team won't bring in new listeners. Better to just stick it out.
WPRO AM: De Petro's year to exit
HJJ: No change

the entire citadel fm cluster= no changes unless jeffreds retires
as fae as th AM side.... if anyone goes i would say its either depetro or york and thats only to save money by brining in hummell...

as far as the clear channel cluster i see no changes anywhere unless its at WHJY with either charles or paul and al being let go do to the "hard economic times"

Why does it have to be that Charlie finally retires? When I talked to him at the HOF induction, sounded as upbeat and happy as ever. Don't see that happening unless maybe something happening off air for him in his life.

HJJ-I do see a change to local at least 6a-12p

I think with Jefferds a retirement may be tied in with predictions of Citadel cost cutting more than anything else. Depends on whether or not they sell him to sponsors as a personality and if they would lose some sponsors if he left. Of course here I'm talking about involuntary "retirement".

No way Paul and Al would ever be cut. They're the reason HJY even exists. The music format doesn't even matter when it comes to the morning show. Charles might be another matter but like Jefferds it depends on how many sponsors they could lose who are buying Charles rather than HJY.

I think any shake ups other than those as a result of cost cutting wouldn't happen until PPM in 2010. PRO FM's reputation for heritage could mean nothing then.

I can't see Clear Channel cutting anywhere else. There's literally nothing left. Those people need a break, a they should let a year go buy without rocking the boat.

Citadel - You've gotta think that middays on all three FMs are on the chopping block. I don't see a reason to have them live at this point. Voice track them and be done with it.

Cat Country - Hopefully 2009 will bring a PD. I don't know how much longer the "Morning Showgram" can go on without someone watching over them. I hear the GM is making most of the calls. GREAT idea... considering his total lack of programming experience. Brilliant move! Bring back Rick Everett and be done with it!

The cost cutting has been going on for years. It's just that now radio has the economy to blame. 2009 isn't going to be any better. Radio management has always looked at jocks as necessarily evils after morning drive. There's a thin line between necessary evils and nonessential personnel. I hear a lot of talk about how radio is going to jump to the task of competing with other ways people get their music. Hello? None of the other ways people get their music involve hearing a jock. Why wouldn't all this happen? Wake up and smell the coffee.
