Sports took the non-football hit, country was pretty much the same, KDF is trying to get toward WSM-AM's listenership. Jet, you're right on the rock - Buzz, Stupid and Lame and In the Tank RQQ dropped and the Pebble is tired. Jack #3. Lightning wasn't as bad as RQQ, nor was The Fan, I mean I without an I. River flat.
The beat was all over trying to take over Mix, but Mix kicked it with a great, high number for this market.
All in all, there is no way anyone can beat Mix and not spend a fortune (and those that would try would never make a difference.) So, looks like RQQ is the only Animal that would just give up finally. I would be worried about KDF at this point, but no one there that makes decisions is, so it'll stay in no where land, I would guess.

Crumulus could save the day with two major actions, but they would never know what to do and make their
market share grow, so why waste the energy. Make that three - Steve Dickert....

Nashville radio still ruled by a lone desktop computer.

and this makes sense how?

Yeah, the damn #1 station all they way around is a bunch of computer generated zombies with no dedication, passion or sense of what works or community involvement, care or concern or THANKS for the loyal listeners. Spew, seriously, with all due respect, will you ever say anything that is intelligent or will you keep typing from the typical "down with radio" playbook?

P.S. Romer cares. I can name other offenders.

Is spew lying?

Always enjoy Spew’s deep thought provoking commentary as well as the repercussions.

I don't care for mix either, not because of the format, but because most everyone that works for them is a jealous taker. But it's hard to knock a station that's consistantly #1, regardless of what they do, or in this case don't do. Whatever it is, it's working for them. And for this, you blame them?

Maybe in your eyes, they don't have to work as hard as some of the other stations do. But they've been doing it well (not necessarily right) for years, and it's paying off for them.

I was being facetious, Davy. For the record, I was trying to convey that I know that they research constantly, they focus and the calls from loyal listeners are real, not canned crap. The station is #1 for a number of reasons in the demo that matters the most. So, yeah, I love harassing them about the music on here (cause it drives me crazy to listen to 90%, but it's not geared for my ears or simple mind) as poking a bit of fun. It's tough being #1 and #3 with only two stations. Who would not compliment that, even if you were
guy in the tank looking up? I beat up on Mac at RQQ because I believe he's passionate and a good guy, but he's not making the decisions. But, I hear his dedication through thick and thin and know he wants to win. Sometimes those decisions are left to people who don't get radio or really care or don't even know what to do, really. I think you know what I am saying, now. Sorry if my previous post sounded like I was actually bashing.

As for "jealous taker(s)", I don't get what that is or what you're trying to say. Can you explain?

With WNRQ and WRQQ doing so poorly, I can only think they both have to take a step toward a slightly more pop sound. With Country stations taking up so many listeners, and WJXA's giant numbers, both stations should not rock so hard and be more workplace-friendly.

Nashville used to give WKDF decent numbers as a Rock station. And Classic Rock has also done well in the past. But neither rock station can superserve the hard rock fan and do well. The Buzz already has that territory covered.

WNRQ has to cut the AC/DC and Scorpions and be careful about too much Zeppelin and Aerosmith... use their more pop-leaning hits. And add more Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Pat Benetar, Billy Joel, Elton John. Maybe even bring back some Hall & Oates and Huey Lewis. I wouldn't advocate this for a Classic Rock station in Detroit or St. Louis. But Nashville is a market that obviously is not very freindly to rock stations. You can't have the same playlist as a market that embraces rock.

Look at www.yes.com and WNRQ. They were playing The Pusher by Steppenwolf at 6:15 this morning. Wrong on three levels... too hard, too unfamiliar and too old. I see George Thorogood "I Drink Alone," Traffic "Medicated Goo," Styx "Blue Collar Man" and Pink Floyd "Empty Spaces." What are they doing on a pop-leaning Classic Rock/Classic Hits station? I'm not sure they got played that much when they were current. Does the average 25-54 adult in Nashville have any memory of these songs?

I bet if you looked at WJXA's male numbers, they're getting more adult men than they should by default. If you don't like Country, WNRQ is not serving casual classic rock fans either.

I should have caught on to that. Picking on anything Cumulus is just too easy and way too fun, so when somene picks on South Central... well, I took it as serious. My bad. I do enjoy reading your posts.

When I said jealous takers, I worried someone would want an explaination. I try not to bash individuals because I'm no saint. So without giving personal examples, I will say that there are givers and there are takers. I've had situations with several employees at SC, and know personally that they are game players and have shown their jealous side more than once. And you'd think that being at the top, they would set an example. But they are still not happy. In my opinion, they are backstabbing, greed-hungry ingrates.

Are sure it wasn't "Flashback with Bill St. James" that was being aired at that time on a Saturday morning? Anyway, 105.9 The Rock doesn't even have local personalities on the week-ends but pick up a service that may be offered to all CC stations too cut cost.

And NO, they don't need to ADD MORE SOFT ROCK (WUSSY ROCK) to increase their ratings, they just need to expand their playlist and not play the same handful of songs by Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, et al. And deeper cuts by other artist.

And to answer your other question, I'm 49 year old and I remember all of those songs and when they were current!!!
