All of which will be joined by only ONE other soap by this time next year - Days Of Our Lives

Once Days Of Our Lives is finally retired, this year's nominees will be the only soaps on TV

So sad.....

Incidentally (And as a sidenote), I learned recently that 20th Century Fox has renewed the copyright to the 1950s motion picture Love Is A Many Splendoured Thing which the mid-1960s-early 1970s CBS soap opera by the same name was based on. Makes you wonder why Fox (Or another network) just simply doesn't decide to modernize it & release a new soap opera with the same name, doesn't it?

According to Wikipedia, it had a pretty good audience for its time even when it was cancelled

Cheers :D

Maybe it's me, but if a program is cleared in the "prime access" hour on at least 90% of the country, should it qualify for a daytime Emmy?

A movie remake, maybe. A prime-time television drama, maybe. A new soap -- I don't think so, as many affiliates want to keep daytime for themselves, not to mention that they're probably still smarting from the telenovela fisaco that launched MyNetworkTV.

I think anything outside of prime-time and late-night is considered "daytime", which includes anything in "prime access".

Well maybe not so much a network (Unless a cable network wants to take a shot at it) but maybe the future of soaps on TV lies IN SYNDICATION like game shows have been for the last several years & talk shows are now.

If so, then MyNetwork would come in handy here as News Corp. could use it to flex the Fox syndication arm not only to MyNetwork affiliates (Although they would be offered first dibs) but to anyone wanting the soaps they syndicate.

Call me insane if you will but I think if given half a chance, syndication could be the one thing that saves soap operas from extinction in the long term

Just looking at the bigger picture......

Cheers :D

What's "Cash Cab" and "Family Game Night"? Never heard of these shows until now.

And guess who's not nominated in the Talk Show category this year as this will be her last year (FINALLY!!) and that is Oprah?

Cash Cab has been on Discovery Channel for several years. It's a trivia game show that takes place in a NYC Cab. It launched a spin-off late last year Cash Cab Chicago. As of late it's also airing in repeats on local station including MY TV 9 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Family Game Night is a game show on The Hub, which is a network that's a joint venture between Hasbro and Discovery Networks. The Hub used to be Discovery Kids. It shows cartoons (mainly during the day) older shows, a few original shows, and movies at night.

Except that soaps outside the "Big 3" had a rather poor track record -- examples include the syndicated "Rituals" (one season), TBS's "The Catlins" (two seasons), "Strange Paradise" and "High Hopes" (both syndicated in US, both for one season).

All My Children's last air date will be September 23, 2011. By this time next year, only four others here mentioned will remain.

Actually, Oprah took herself out of the nomination process several years ago after winning several Daytime Emmys previously (although she doesn't seem to mind her show and those who work for her still getting nominated).
