2011 Predictions For Wilmington?

Modern Rock has been on 98.7 for eight days now. What are your thoughts? I must say they have the widest playlist in Wilmington or even NC.

Who needs to worry more?

The Bone had better do something very quickly as they are an 70s to 90s based rocker; the only difference is The Bone throws in harder tracks every now and then.

WGNI and WLGD play a bunch of 80s but GNI should be OK.

The Hawk is now the little station getting clobbered by the 100,000 watt giant, enough said about that one.

I can't pick up Rock 105 at home in Wilmington but everyone I talk to that can get Rock in their car tell me 98.7 is a better

I predict either 103.7 or 94.5 will tweak or change formats as this four way station swap has changed the entire radio dial.

99.9 may have to tweak or re-image if something does not happen for them in the next book. In the last Arbitron ratings book they lost half their audience in a year.

104.5 is climbing with each book but I fear it may not be enough for this little AC that is getting smashed by GNI.

97.3 and 101.3 are high preforming staples; they are not going anywhere.

98.3 can only gain with their stronger signal and loyal following.

107.5 will continue to grow strong with the top 40 crowd

As far as Modern Rock 98.7 is concerned; all they have to do is take numbers from any rock station from North Myrtle Beach to Greenville. I do not know how far west 98.7 can be heard.

These are just my thoughts for the year ahead, nothing more.

As the Spring 2011 ratings period approaches, I agree with your take on "Coast 97.3" and "Double Q 101.3", they
aren't going anywhere, but i can say one of their Cumulus properties will change formats soon, and if it's 94.5
"The Hawk", i hope they will simulcast with WAAV 980 AM, which would give the News/Talk outlet a FM signal,
we shall see; As for the others, "The Penguin" moving to 98.3 will work, "The Bone" 103.7 needs tweaking if
they want to compete, "Modern Rock 98.7" and their 100,000 watts will give them a good debut, but can they
substain listeners?, i think the idea of winning $1,000 will only last for so long, meanwhile the other Wilmington
stations will hold steady, but keep your eyes on "Jammin' 99.9" and "Sunny 104.5", any shift in numbers could
mean a change this fall.

Not a prediction, but my wish would be that Double Q would bring me in for either AM or PM Drive so I can live on the coast....and let me stay there for about 20 years or so. That way I could go sit on a pier and fish in either the morning or afternoon. I can only wish.....

The ratings for Wilmington"s Fall Book are in, according to this web site under the "ratings" section, it's no
surprise that WWQQ achieved double digit numbers, probably the highest in their history, but with no real
competition in this format here expect them to continue at #1 as the Spring Book begins and ends, my take
on surprises, WAAV coming up to a 5.3, and "Sunny 104.5" falling to their lowest rating since signing on the
air almost two years ago, i wonder if going Christmas Music against WGNI hurt them, or are the listeners
want them to do something different?, this will be interesting to watch.
