2011 Radio Predictions

Soft Rock 933 will see its demise.
WNCI will continue to rank #1 and it'll continue to lean rhythmic like it has been this last month. I always knew WNCI playing rhythmic was a smart idea in this market.
We'll see a few format flips... possibly Classic Hits 103.9 - that's way overdue.
Power 107.5 will continue to fail... but look for a positioner change like they did in Cinci, "Columbus' only station for Hip-Hop & R&B"
Mix 1079 becomes a CHR station...

Speaking of that, have you heard 103.7 WDBR in Springfield, IL? Also a Saga station (without Billy Bush surprisingly) - they still love their Nickelback, but I heard Bruno Mars' Grenade, Pitbull's Hey Baby and LMFAO's I'm In Miami Trick. A good mainstream CHR but still will throw on the hot ac gold... I'd take Mix 1079 this direction and start breaking down that 'NCI cume the best they can. Similar to Columbus, Springfield has two stations for hit music.... 99.7 KISS FM and 103.7 WDBR - KISS FM loves rhythmic, WDBR loves the safe hits... Check them out... http://www.wdbr.com

What do you guys think?

I used to listen to both stations when I lived in Hillsboro, Illinois, which just happens to be the COL for 99.7. I'm good friends with a DJ from 104.5 WFMB, and have been inside Neuhoff Media's studio in Springfield. It's actually a circular building. The upstairs is where all the studios are located. There are 3 rooms facing the outside of the building for 104.5 WFMB-FM, 96.7 WCVS-FM, and 99.7 WXAJ-FM. Then, the room in the middle of the circle is the studio for 1450 WFMB-AM. Unlike most stations in Columbus, all 3 of Neuhoff's FM's are live and local 24/7.

Springfield is a small market respectively, and people just kinda listen to whatever. The stations there don't really battle it out. They just do their thing and people like it. I really think most of Columbus' stations try too hard. If they would stop trying to take out a 175K giant and just play something other than what NCI plays, they might have a chance.
