It is that time of the year... countdowns of the year that was.
So what were your song likes and dislikes for 2012? Here are mine:
1. International Love - Pitbull Featuring Chris Brown. Something about this song just makes me happy...
2. Drive By – Train. Never enjoyed a Train song before, until this little ditty came out...
3. Reboot the Machine (Eyes on the Prize) – The Wallflowers. Really got into this song on AAA radio. Wallflowers never sounded better.
4. Starships – Nicki Minaj. The faux-rave sound was pretty interesting.
5. We Found Love - Rihanna Featuring Calvin Harris. While they did over play the heck out of it, I still find myself listening to it a year later.
Worst of 2012:
Locked Out of Heaven - Bruno Mars. The song grates on me like fingers on a chalkboard. I think he is talented but this is pure drivel that we will never hear again after its three month run.
Payphone - Maroon 5. I just don't get it: it is so vanilla and plain. Where is the hook, the lyrics, the personality? A waste of airtime.
Wide Awake - Katy Perry. Usually very talented, this song was unbearable. From the second I heard the first few notes, my fingers couldn't hit the 'next' button on my car radio fast enough.
Jury is out: "Some Nights" - fun. I cannot decide (still) my feelings about this song. It has an undeniably catchy chorus and hook (that reminds of Cecelia by Simon and Garfunkel). However, the lyrics are nonsensical. First it tries to be silly ("But here they go again to jack my style" "This is it, boy. This is war.") Then goes overly sentimental and self-important ("But when I look into my nephew's eyes, Man you wouldn't believe, the most amazing things, that can come from, Some terrible nights.") UGH. Billboard called it a sleeper hit but here in Atlanta they have been playing it consistently since June.
