2012 MDA Telethon gets trimmed further to three hours

IMHO this decision, along with the removal of Jerry Lewis as host, is the start of a planned campaign to stop telecasting the MDA telethon altogether. By 2014 there won't be an MDA telethon.

All that said, their Telethon History page is now an extraordinarily even-handed accounting - it does not downplay Jerry Lewis' role, but it also lets on about some things I've never seen on their history (for instance, Dean Martin's association with the cause in its early years, including doing a telethon with Lewis in 1956.)

Interesting reading:

Time to get rid of it altogether. Jerry Lewis, and every part of the old version of the telethon is completely GONE.

Can they really call it a telethon if it's only three hours? Can someone hold a three mile marathon?

I guess in the end this will make sense because from the press release ..

"The Labor Day weekend prime-time, three-hour show will air Sunday, Sept. 2 on MDA’s network of broadcast stations."

and only three stations run this. :D
