2012 NFL Blackout Thread

Now that we are in pre-season under the revised NFL blackout rules (an 85% sellout instead of a total sellout), are they games in your area still not selling out, therefore leading to a blackout?

This Friday's (8/17) Titan's - Bucs game will be blacked out in much of Central and Southwest Florida, as, despite the new rules, still hadn't sold out in time. Because of this, WTSP will delay the game until 11:35PM (delaying Dave and Craig until afterward), with replays on Saturday, first on a subchannel, then later on the main channel:

Word from the LA TV board that the Chargers-Cowboys has been blacked out in the San Diego and, at least, the Los Angeles market, leading to KCBS in LA to delay the game until 11:35PM Saturday. As with the Bucs-Titans game, the game was below the 85% threshold.

Actually teams are allowed to choose whether or not they want to go along with the new 85% sellout option that the NFL has provided this year. Here is an article explaining why some teams like the Bills and Chargers aren't going along with it: http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/bills-nfl/article1003559.ece

But here's the drawback. By opting in, the Bills would have had to pay a substantially higher percentage of gate receipts for every home game into a league-wide revenue fund for every ticket above the 51,000 figure. The Bills would have had to pay 50 percent, rather than 34 percent, of such receipts to the league.

I thought the Bucs bought into the 85% blackout rule? Or does this week's blackout simply mean that folks aren't interested in being in attendance for a preseason game?

The articles said that the Bucs have opted in into the new rule -- but apparently, they were still unable to sell out 85% of the game.
