2013 Lexus GS450 Gets HD Radio

Rolls-Royce is now owned by Beamer, and my bet is the audio systems are sourced from the same supplier, someone like Becker or Blaupunkt. IIRC the BWM service bulletins simply direct dealers to demonstrate to complaining customers how to defeat the HD function.

Again, recalling now, I think there's a menu option. Click on the nix-the-hiss icon. It's a little snake picture with a red slash through it. :D

This may seem counter-intuitive, but I honestly believe the best course of action for HD at the moment would be to ship car radios with the HD off by default, and a placard demonstrating the tech stashed somewhere with the owners manual stuff.

That way the ones who want it can turn it on, the ones who don't will never know its there.

And since this is sort of on the subject of BMW-owned vehicles, I actually saw an HD radio display briefly pop up on the TV show Motorweek on HD Theater. They were reviewing a BMW motorcycle of all things and when the shot cut to the instrument panel there was an LCD display showing WIYY HD-1 on the screen. Looks like the radio went from off to decoding the text in less than 2 seconds!

No mention was made of the radio otherwise. Usually the show showcases the radio by displaying Sirius or XM channels instead.

Driving a borrowed car a few years back, quite a few years back, had the radio on AM and the thing went into stereo. It was just falsed and the owner knew nothing about it, as their were no longer any stations supporting the technology, but the radio had no mono switch.
