2013 Predictions

* NBC will axe Days Of Our Lives & chop the last two hours of Today to make room for a slew of shows catering to Work At Home DADS (This lineup will include a version of The View featuring a group of men as hosts)

NBC tried that with a show called The Other Half, which had Dick Clark and Mario Lopez as hosts back when The View was new. Most men are likely watching ESPN SportsCenter or something else, and likely not enough would watch a daytime show like that even now.
Except The Other Half wasn't a daytime show
I don't think NBC will chop down the Today show by two hours. More likely NBC expands it to a fifth hour and dilutes and tarnishes the show even more for short term profits.
Not likely considering it's taking a beating as it is now
Ok, more likely than those two scenarios are it gets reduced one hour, or the last hour gets a new anchor. They could let Kathie Lee Gifford go possibly in favor of a younger male like Nate Berkus.
No. If they have to go that route, they'd just assume save the $$$ & chop the last two hours completely
NBC is too wary to try anything other than Today in the Morning. Prior to the Today third hour, there was Later Today which was a failure even though it followed and had semblance to Today. They know the most profitable route is milking that show.
That's because they have INCOMPETANT MANAGEMENT running the Daytime Entertainment Division. Afterall, why do you think the brass is leaning on the news division to run Daytime?

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 :D

I figure NBC will eventually give up on daytime completely except for the Today Show. They let too many local stations pre-empt their programming for too long and did nothing to stop it, but that's another topic we've gone through in other threads.

*Someone will attempt to revive the comedy/variety format from the 1970's. It will be the biggest Epic Fail in TV history.

Bring on The Justin Beiber Goodtime Hour! ;D (Gag!)

Yes, that's pretty much what I had in mind! :D

I've actually come to feel a bit sorry for Rev. Robertson in recent years, as I truly
believe he's gone a bit senile. Why his family hasn't seen that and taken steps to
protect him from himself is beyond me.

My predictions for 2013:

* Fox will clean out it's Sunday Night lineup. The Simpsons will not be renewed beyond it's 25th season, Cleveland Show will be axed by the end of the current season, Family Guy and American Dad MIGHT be axed by the end of next season, and Bobs Burgers might stay another couple seasons.

* Two and a Half Men will not go on beyond next season.

* SyFy, hopefully, will add some Sci-Fi Shows.

* The CW will finally admit defeat and fold.

* OWN will be killed off/merged into Discovery Health/Fit.

* Another Soap Opera will bite the dust.

Other prediction: This could be for 2014 as well, but I think CBS will pull the plug on Lets Make a Deal and add a new talk show after The Talk. I don't see Deal has a long-term solution for CBS daytime and I think having a new talk show would work better since majority of the CBS stations air a syndication talk show in the 3 or 4pm time slots anyway.

I'm at it again (yippee!):

ABC will develop a new weekend overnight version of Good Morning America, to be co-hosted by Jill Schulz, daughter of "Peanuts" creator Charles M. Schulz, to be titled Good Grief, America!

The National Hockey League will finally adopt a truth-in-advertising policy and change its' name to the No Hockey League. The Los Angeles Kings will remain champions in perpetuity.

Battery commercials will now include the tag, "Toys not included."

Fox News Channel will develop a new weekend show hosted by that scion of Americana, G. Gordon Liddy, called It Never Happened! Each episode will have a guest explaining why some events never happened and that we've all been lied to. Topics will include: The Holocaust, The Moon Landing, The Cuban Missile Crisis, the JFK Assassination, The Ford Presidency, Watergate, Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point game, and Super Bowl III.

Hey, if you can't believe G. Gordon Liddy, well.... ::)

These things are guaranteed to happen in 2013, or else my name isn't Thomas Milhous Jefferson.

One other prediction I think will take place in 2013 is.....

.....The demise of CET (Comcast Entertainment Television - Better known as CORPORATE Entertainment Television or COMMERCIAL Entertainment Television, neither of which is good). Who watches that channel anyway? I sure as heck don't

It will be replaced nationwide with either CSN or CN (Based on what is needed where)

There is infrastructure in place to use both however both will not be available everywhere. It will largely be on a city by city basis as to what would replace CET

Thoughts?

Cheers & 73 :D

* CW will drop ALL of their comedies (They're no good anyway) in lieu of more dramas produced by TNT (I can even see Dynasty & Knots Landing on the CW someday)

CW still does sitcoms?
Not sitcoms. Dramedies. "Gilmore Girls", a WB import, was one of their first. At one time they did have sitcoms. "Everybody Hates Chris" from UPN was a masterpiece. Well, by UPN standards. "Reba" was shown a few times out of some kind of obligation. "The Game" finally showed up again on BET.

Now, they have "Hart of Dixie". Which is pathetic.

"Hellcats" was also intended to be a comedy but that didn't last. It was much better and had lots of potential beyond hot cheerleaders doing fancy moves in sexy outfits.

"Emily Owens" is sort of a comedy.

9. ABC cancels The Chew and replaces it with the afternoon version of Good Morning America called Good Afternoon America.
According to the TV listings I pay $30 extra for a year so I can take them on vacation and so I can refer to them more easily than my TiVo, and after TiVo has deleted the old listings, there's no such show. There is a show called "The".

And I've called them three times about it.

The Moon Landing
This one has been done.

And since G. Gordon Liddy was a part of Watergate, I don't see him doing something that really did happen or claiming it didn't happen when it did.

Liddy will say that Watergate was a misunderstanding, that they didn't get the last memo, that there was really good intentions behind it, and/or that they were just following orders. Liddy will also ask out loud why something hasn't been named after him yet. ::)

- I think Sinclair Broadcasting will purchase some of the Tribune stations and add more to their growing portfolio. They are in the running to purchase all of Barrington Station group. If they are successful, then expect more deals from Sinclair in 2013.

Las Vegas' KLAS-TV will change hands in 2013. Sinclair will be one of the bidders. If they are successful, they will "sell" KVCW to one of their related companies. I can't see Sinclair buying in the top 15 markets, though.

I do see Scripps selling KNXV-TV to Hearst, in exchange for Tampa Bay's WMOR-TV and cash. Employee morale at KNXV, especially in the newsroom, will improve.

A KNXV for WMOR does make some sense... Scripps already owns a station in Tampa (ABC affiliate WFTS) and would create a duopoloy. WMOR always seemed out of place since it is the only Independent Hearst owns and is their only station in the Tampa Bay DMA. Scripps has at least one other duopoly (Kansas City.)

Let's not forget that Scripps has just about given up on making KNXV a market player (last night, they sandwiched the low-budget "RightThisMinute" between their 10pm news and "Dick ClarkRyan Seacrest's New Year's Rockin' Eve"). At least Hearst could attempt to give the station some credibility. WFTS seems to be hanging in there despite the unpopular "Scripps Programming Mandate of 2012."

I have not been to Tampa since last summer but I do go down there a few times a year since my parents live there. Last time I saw WFTS had a good and pretty competitive newscast.

Regarding NBC's Thu primetime for Fall, what do you think the lineup will be?

8:00 Community
8:30 Up All Night
9:00 (Michael J. Fox sitcom)
9:30 Parks and Recreation

Or, will 'Community' and 'Up All Night' face cancellations, leading to a more significant lineup change?

Community has yet to make an appearance this season and you are giving it the lead off slot on Thursdays next Fall? I think the fact it has yet to air is as much as vote of 'no confidence' as you can get. The show is a victim of it's own hype, from the fired creator/producer to the show's brazenly loud but miniscule internet followers.

I don't know with NBC. It gave Community Thu night last year when it wasn't hot either. NBC kept Scrubs for so long, but never acted like it really wanted to air the show either. It always got rescheduled, dumped, tossed around and new episodes were never plugged. None of the Scrubs stars were asked to host SNL. But it somehow managed to stick on NBC for as long as it did.

On the other hand, NBC loved Will & Grace, all four hosted SNL (when none are major stars), and the show always got plugged.

I agree that another Star Trek series will be forthcoming on a cable TV channel and it will not have to deal with the crew of the Enterprise.

Two and a Half Men will be cancelled next season, however I don't believe Charlie Sheen will reappear as one poster suggested (although it is a great idea). The feud between Sheen and Chuck Loire (sp) is tantamount to the Hatfields and McCoys.

The History Channel will be featuring less history and more shows like Ax Men, Ice Road Truckers as an example.

Here is my big prediction. You Tube will be forced to remove a large number of "clips" featured on the site centering on former TV shows from the past. Just in the past year I've noticed a number of the "Tonight Show" with Johnny Carson features have been eliminated. Same with the "Dean Martin" show. This is because the syndicators wants the public to spend money and purchase DVD's instead.

Now this is just a rumor that I heard from a friend of my son's who works in Hollywood. He said the CW is trying to negotiate with the cast of Smallville to reprise their roles in order to air an updated version of the Superman series. The person said the sticking point is that Tom Welling doesn't want to be stereotyped as Clark Kent, and several other actors have moved on to other projects.
