Not quite LOLing, but chuckling heartily at the idea of a cable company accusing another business of being "driven by greed."

That is indeed funny. A cable system creates nothing... it is like the a municipal water department... it pumps other people's content, whether it be fresh water or sewage, from one place to another.

Cable is an electronic pipe, using someone else's creativity and enterprise with the sole purpose of making money and creating nothing. On top of that, they do it generally so badly that a number of cable companies are ranked as having the worst service of any kind of company in the country. They are disliked even more than airlines!

WGN America has been trying their hand at original series; case in point: Underground. In addition, they were the U.S. home for the CBC drama Bellevue, starring Anna Paquin (years before, it was CTV’s Corner Gas).

But growing up in Fairbanks in the ‘80s (when we still had only two commercial stations in KATN and KTVF), WGN was our only outlet for Soul Train, Star Search, Geraldo, Puttin’ On The Hits, Joan Rivers, the syndicated movie packages from Universal and MGM, Tales From The Darkside, At The Movies (before Siskel and Ebert left for Disney), This Week In Baseball, and even Fun House!

That is indeed funny. A cable system creates nothing... it is like the a municipal water department.

Except that some cable companies have become so cash rich that they have now become owners of content companies. That's the case with Comcast buying NBCUniversal. We also have Liberty Media, which is primarily a cable company, buying Sirius and Pandora, and possibly even buying a stake in iHeart.

All of this at a time when phone companies such as AT&T and Verizon have also purchased content companies TimeWarner and Oath. What all this means is that companies that were formerly distribution companies are also in the content creation business, and are competing against companies they distribute.

Like I've said in other posts I think that Spectrum has started to use Time Warner's tactics, which isn't a good thing. I honestly wouldn't care if we lost WGN America permanently, but I don't want to lose WREG in Memphis unless we could get WTVF in Nashville, but I doubt if that will happen.

Only less than 5 hours to spare on this prediction, but I will go on a limb and predict that this year's Golden Globes coverage on NBC is joined in progress due to Bears-Eagles wild card game running late. Some viewers will even want NBC to "pull a Heidi" and go right to the awards at 8/7, and when not they are livid why the Golden Globes coverage started late. (Unless no one cares about the awards, like me, but I have a feeling some people will mess their pants over such a delay a la 60 Minutes delays).

Is there a chance NBC might start the Golden Globes on Bravo or some other cable channel and join it in progress after the game, with a crawl running during the game? Chances are that few NFL viewers -- predominantly male and 50+ -- will be inconvenienced by this one bit.

However, cable systems are locally licensed by various governments. Local taxpayers might have a bone to pick with approving a particular cable company that chooses to not carry a local station. That cable company might lose their market exclusivity.

My expectation is they'll hold up the awards show for the east coast feed. There's no point starting it until the TV audience joins.

We get the hour version of Access Hollywood here at 2am. Steve repeat at 3 and the morning news block at 4.

That would depend on what the broadcast contract with the NFL says. They might not be allowed to push the end to cable.

I expect local LA TV stations to do a special this week of the 25th anniversary of the Northridge quake as a warning to the current Los Angeles residents that there will be another fault in the south land thats overdue for a 6.7 and above in the next 20-30 years.
