2021 Predictions

How does this false statement live on? The FCC doesn’t consider Fox News anything. There is no such thing as a classification for a cable network.
In fact, cable networks, which are not broadcast over the air, are not even FCC regulated.

--JCPenney finally goes out of business and closes all their remaining stores. Other major retail chains teeter closer to bankruptcy or follow them down the abyss
Penney was just purchased by a consortium of major mall owners who will maintain the operation of the department store chain to sustain a critical "anchor" tenant in many of their properties.

For the moment, Penney's is very safe.

Ideally that would be Y&R...it could air from 1-1:30, giving 12:30-1pm to the affiliates so they could expand the news to an hour. CBS could and probably would also feed Y&R at 11am CT and B&B at 11:30am CT so Y&R and B&B could air back to back in those markets before the noon news. But I don’t know if I’ll ever see the day the affiliates give up 12:30-1 Eastern, at least as long as Days is still on the air, it gives CBS a half hour jump on them.
Maybe you remember, but wasn't it true when "Y & R" first started, we had "Top O' the Day" for an entire hour at noon?

Or were you in Charlotte then?

I remember that everyone at UNCC watched "Ryan's Hope" and I wanted to watch "Y & R", which I had just discovered. I had a TV in my room but I had to change it to WFMY or WSPA.

Meijer will do a big Midwest expansion into MO/KS.
If so I say probably just to the St. Louis area for now. More likely Meijer will try to finish expanding into the western half of Illinois before they enter MO. Such as expanding into Peoria, the Quad Cities, and the Metro East area (the Illinois side of the STL metro).

I’ve always lived in the Charlotte area, actually lived in Charlotte for a while, wasn’t born til 1978, but I’ve seen listings on here. WBTV didn’t even air Y&R until right before it expanded to an hour. You are correct, Top O’ The Day did originally air from noon until 1 and when WBTV first cleared Y&R, it aired from 1-1:30 at first, on an hour delay then in pattern from 1-2pm. It briefly aired from 10-11 am on a one day delay. That must have been when CBS first moved it to 12:30. WBTV finally moved TPIR to 10:30 (they realized it was better to have that on a one day delay than Y&R), Top O’ The Day to 11:30-12:30 and put Y&R in pattern from 12:30-1:30. Wikipedia says that was in 1982. That lasted until 1992. That made so much more sense though the 10:30 am game show was never cleared. Before Top O’ The Day, WBTV aired Betty Feezor and a show called Scene at Noon. Search for Tomorrow was delayed 30 minutes to 1pm. WCCB did clear Y&R some of the time but not all.

Yeah, I remember "Scene at Noon" with Clyde McLean and Ty Boyd.

Something I'd like to see:

Major cable networks make their live feeds available on their streaming channels without having to be on a cable system. Also I'd like to see major streaming channels like Me TV become available through streaming.

What we need is someone who offers everything. There are too many different things to pay for right now if you're going to get everything. If I knew for sure an antenna would work, I wouldn't even need cable at this point. I may be about to find out.

So, give their content away?
It's important for consumers to know that cable systems (and satellite) pay rights fees to the cable channels and stations they carry. Most of what cable subscribers pay to their provender goes to the content suppliers.

In fact, in many medium and smaller markets, TV stations may get more income from carriage fees than from advertisers.

Those stations and cable channels would expect comparable revenue from video streaming sources as most could not exist without those fees. In particular, local news in those markets would disappear if the stations could not collect carriage fees.

Since this thread is focused on 2021, here are my predictions;

1. The broadcasting Industry slowly starts seeing a rebound in listening levels. (this is a possibility)

2. KRTH will add some more 80's and 90's to it's playlist, but only if they test well!

3. KSUR's oldies format remains on KKGO-HD2, while the main channel plays classical music or anything else Saul wants to
experiment with.
