2026 Radio Predictions

Brucie is 90 and isn't likely to be doing his show much longer. Not worth the investment in AM HD just for that one personality and his 60+-year-old music. If Cats were to go all-oldies at night all week, with a roster of out-to-pasture Top 40 jocks at the mic, maybe, but they'd probably have to pay their own way.
I will probably croak before he does.

I would bet not. WNYC has existed for a century or so, and they either simulcast with WNYC-FM (which ain't going anywhere) or time-shift programs that also air(ed) on the FM. The additional staff to run the AM is nearly non-existent, maybe an AM transmitter engineer or two. Everyone else is shared, most of the non-transmitter-chain equipment is shared, the staff, the promotion, the scheduling, the fundraising. So it's a little different equipment, a little different staff and the power and/or maintenance cost. Of all the AM candidates for a trip to oblivion, why would they shut down this one?
WNYC AM 820 is almost a complete simulcast of the FM. The only exceptions are weekends from 10-11am, which makes the AM almost entirely redundant. With cuts in federal funding for public broadcasting, WNYC may have to make further cutbacks. I wouldn't rule out selling or shutting down the AM as an option.

Prediction: 94.7 FM will be sold to EMF, which will use it to simulcast 96.7 PortChester, and reach the rest of NY city and North Jersey.
I would rather just say that if anything with a 94.7 prediction, they could also sell the station to Univision. I mean they could make some type of format that can compete with other stations like WPAT and WEPN-FM, or simply simulcast with 1280 AM

There is no history at Univision to do talk formats on FM… plus that format is basically dead. The FM signal is less than fully competitive for some of the boroughs… the area in LI. Most Hispanics are in high density housing where a lesser FM signal will not be competitive .

With station values as depressed as they are, why would Audacy sell off 94.7?

There's no reason to believe it's losing money even with low ratings. And it makes Audacy one of only two players in market #1 with five FMs for as long as that remains the FCC's market cap.

This may well be the year that market cap lifts, and that's the "what if" that could bring some big shocks to major market radio.

Maybe Move WHLI off of 104.7 W284DG in Nassau or Move it to/simulcast on 104.7 W284BW from 1WTC. While that would be nice, Perhaps That'll Never Happen. However, I'd Think It Can Fix Some Terrible Interference (Coverage Overlap) in Brooklyn & Queens from Both 104.7s. Both Kinda Way too Close, W284DG is Kinda Close to JFK Airport. It's Maybe Like 20 Miles From WTC. (Not Factoring in WSPK.)

I heard W284BG Faintly near Bridgewater NJ Last Year, it Was Interfering With (one of) WRNJ's Translator's (104.7 - W284AQ) .. From Hackettstown.

I Remember Hearing 1100 AM in Ocean County NJ - Signal Was Better there than a few miles from/next to NYC in the Meadowlands. 1100 from Long Island Goes Further South, Covering Most of / Almost the Entire Jersey Shore, At Least To Atlantic City, Impressive From That Direct ➡ Path Over the Salt Water.

Check My Area's Translator Station Pattern For W248DD (For WCCP & WAHT) in Upstate SC on 97.5 .. it's So Directional SE to Protect WCOS Columbia, and From A Taller Tower = More Interference, Both Cancel Each Other And The Frequency is Virtually Unlistenable in Union SC, Just a Few Miles Away ...

99 Watts From 1WTC on 104.7 Seems Mostly a Waste, Due to Co-Channel Interference, to the East and North.
