It is hard to believe that today marks the 20th anniversary of WGN Radio host Bob Collins' death. If you have been a long time listener of WGN Radio, Bon Collins was the long time morning man on WGN Radio, and Robert Feder to close off his column yesterday took some time to have an article about him https://www.robertfeder.com/2020/02...-geist-named-illinois-broadcasters-hall-fame/ . That morning Bob Collins hosted the morning show which body would have believed at the time for the final time. At the time of his death he was 57 yers old just a few weeks away from what would have been 58th birthday. He was flying his plane that afternoon and was attempting to land at Waukegan Regional Airport in Waukegan, Illinois. When he collided with another airplane flown by Sharon Hock, that was just below his airplane and neither was aware of each other presence until the time of the crash. His show was the top rated morning show on WGN Radio, he started in 1974 as the afternoon host, and in 1986 he succeeded Wally Philips as the morning host, as Wally Philips moved to afternoons. Wally Phipis was the top rated morning show host at the time, and then Bob Collin' morning show would also be top rated until his death, on his final show he read off Things as I have learned as I aged which you can listen at https://wgnradio.com/2020/02/07/bob...arned-as-i-aged-20-years-ago-the-day-he-died/ . John Williams pays tribute to him at the beginning, I am not sure how much audio still exits from his final morning other then this clip.
