I have to agree! John David Wells, you said it first. Las Vegas will never produce a station as an "all news" outlet!
The budget here is small town. Whether its KNUU, KXNT, or any other station in the valley, Las Vegas will NEVER EVER have a 24 hour news station. For now we listen to a simulcast of fox 5 live at 10 or pray our pd sends a reporter to break the news while it happens during live programming.
I don't believe any changes have been made in our programming. Maybe they were just embarrassed by JD's comment on nobody being at the press conference of Sgt. Prendas death while in the line of duty. It was a shame to hear not even one radio station in this valley covered the conference. That was big deal and showed how small market mentality it really is here in Vegas! If I can recall, the last time an officer was killed in the line of duty (1988), a radio news outlet was there to cover the press conference whether they were live or just recording the audio.
It goes to show, theater of the mind clearly does not exist in Las Vegas radio unless those stations can make a buck on what they broadcast!
JD, I know if you were the pd of a local radio news station, you would cover the news and not read it from the "Review Journal." A solution would be, invest $200 in a police scanner and send out the "blood hounds" (producers) to cover the stories. This way, the reporter could own their news. Why not send the producers out for the grunt work? We do all their research anyway!
