24 Radio News Network

Besides Fox News, what 24 hour news networks are available to radio? I'm talking full time news networks for all news stations. We're not interested in just top of the hour newscasts. I understand CNN does not offer a full time radio network, just hourly newscasts. Of the full time news networks, who do you think is best? Does AP News offer a full schedule?

Westwood One provides an audio-simulcast of HLN (nee CNN Headline News). Not recommended.

I belive AP stopped their 24/7 network. KOKC used to run that here at first, and from what I understand it was one of the few that did nationwide at that time. We were forever having to call our local AP manager and having him call up to HQ to have them give us some audio. He was a great guy that would go the extra mile for us on that...

Years ago I seem to recall several AM All News stations would either supplement or almost exclusively utilize CNN Cable News broadcasts for their programming. I do remember actually hearing CNN TV Newscasts and programming on a local AM station in the Hartford area which was All News at the time. Most of the programming was CNN's TV broadcast and then they'd break in with some local news and info during the daytime hours.

Are you planning to put 24/7 news on your main channel, or an HD-2 sub-channel?

We had an AM in the Salt lake market running BBC for a while, but it became a "gap-filler" for an FM, then was purchased by the Catholic Church. It did fairly well when they had BBC World Service, but I don't know if the BBC can service a commercial station.

You might want to look at some other outlets, like Deutsche-Welle (DW) radio from Germany, or Radio Netherlands English service, and maybe mix it with hourly news of American interest. Another possibility would be World Radio Network (WRN), which carries a selection of International Broadcasters news and features programming.

But, even with these kinds of first-rate international broadcasters, you'll likely need to grab something fully American each hour. But, you'd be surprised how much American news they do carry...especially on the political and economic front.
