25 hz r/r tone detector

gentlemen...I own a classic country FM station, and have about 50 10" reels
of old country I would like to dub to CD. I need a 25 hz tone detector. Would prefer the Gates rack mount unit with delay stop...BUT what doya have and how much $$$. Thanks JBI<P ID="signature">______________

The big question is why do you need a tone detector? Is your CD recording software capable of creating an index mark where the tone would go? Also, why would you want the tone to even air? Are you going to filter it out when you dub the tape to disc?

I only dubbed a handful of tracks off my old automation reels and all I did was filter the tone from the program audio. I didn't need to run the cd from an automation system so I didn't bother to match an index marker with the location of the 25hz tone.

I've got a Conex CS-25 rack mount dual, with one of two sensor channels installed (that's left channel, for you tape automation guys), fast PLL type sensor, adjustable stop delay up to several seconds, checked, works fine. Contact me for more specifics.

Kill two birds with one stone.

Find an Otari ARS 1000 in good condition with the tone detector. Not only can it stop the deck on the stone, but also provide a second closure to do something else clever. Like maybe stop your recording?

The tone detectors in those decks are way too sensitive. They tend to cause the deck to pre-stop before the tone ends.

Never had that problem...but I believe there was one pot we changed out with a different value. Depended as well on how you wired them up. The decks have two closures, one was to be used to start the next deck/event, then there a timed closure for a delayed stop. This allowed tight segues music to music. We had 7 in use at one time, 4 on the FM, 3 on the AM. Most are sitting in an empty house we own.

Perhaps we were just unlucky?

We had four decks that would do it. There was no consistent pattern. Sometimes they’d play to the end of the tone while other times they would pre-stop. The problem was very inconsistent from tape to tape as well. When it did happen, often times if the tape was partially rewound and replayed to the end of the same song, it would work just fine. It happened on tapes we had from Century 21, Broadcast Programming and tapes we made in house. We always cleaned the heads and rollers before loading tapes.

Would you consider building one? I have a schematic for a 25 Hz bandpass that will do the detection - no drift, no problems, will absolutely be reliable. Contact me by email if you want it.

I sent the information from a different email address ----
